Champions league 2013/2014 - Dicsussion & Banter

I think it is high time a lot of players not only in this country (but across the world wherever they play) took a long hard look at themselves.
To a degree I wonder if they ever are proud of themselves when they have either conned the referee and their opposition with their attempts to win a game. Ashley Young being a case in point.
I think he wasting a fair percentage his talent when when he does his "dive" in the area and he loses a little respect.
I recall on 606 last week or the week before where one caller said he has seen this creep into schoolboy football. I think if professionals were to teach kids
that this not acceptable, then maybe it would soon start to eradicate it from the professional levels of the game. But most of all FIFA needs to look at the rule book and see if there is a punishment fit the crime, and I feel it should be a straight red even if it meant reviewing it on video somehow at the ground like say maybe at half time.

Yes. Exactly. In other countries they see it as a SKILL. You WIN a penalty. Some players are more skilled at it than others. Ashley Young not so much because he probably only started doing it a few years ago, in other countries they're doing it from being a teenager, as a result they get better at it. They perfect the skill.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong or that i agree with it, because i don't, but i understand that other countries have their way and their culture and when we bring THEIR PLAYERS to our league then this is where the culture clash occurs.

I know if I won a penalty and my team won a game from it then I would be happy with myself...

*Referee you are a fucking joke! Sending off Herrera for moving out of wall after 5minutes! I have seen some stupid decisions but that is pathetic!

Clearly the Referee is Zenit fan as he give 2 yellows to Herrera in 1 minute yet he will not show yellow to any Zenit player..

tough luck fernandez losing to a late goal, but at least you have only lost one game in three seasons in the Portuguese league, that is a record to be proud of even though it is a shit league

A clearly correct decision by the referee to give a yellow card because Herrera was so far out of the wall. Whether it was after 5 minutes or 85 minutes makes no difference.

We did not deserve to loose yesterday and the first yellow was harsh and then the wall was not even 10 yards back and was going to hit the wall anyway. Even with 10 men we were better team for 85min.

The referee also make many other "strange" decisions that seem to favour Zenit.

It is a great record yes, and by no means easy. It is not a shit league at all though, how you can call it shit is beyond me, I very much doubt that you have even see a full game in Liga Zon Sagres or even follow it at all... there are teams like Sporting, Benfica, Braga, who are always fighiting for top 4, and suprise teams like Pacos, who qualified for Europe this season. Just like any other big league in Europe.

Just because is not show on UK TV do not make it shit...... it is very exciting league, with many world class players, Ronaldo, Hulk, Nani, Pepe, Deco, Carvalho, Moutinho, james Rodriguez, Falcao and many more all came through in the league before being notice by La Liga and Premier League and has many of the next top players like Jackson M, Mangala, Alex Sandro, Gaitan, Lima all playing in it.

Also Portuguese teams always do well in European competitions...

Even though Benfica are not one of my favourite team, It is wrong that both teams Olympiacos also have to continue to play a match in rain like they are being made too, it is dangerous and the ball is not even roll on grass and doesnt even move.

I think that Uefa are actually stupid... It is not playable, fans have paid lots too see a fair game, and als is very dangerous.

Both should refuse to continue.. Olympiacos were going to score a tap in and the ball just stop.... Its pathetic.. The ref should be questioned afterwards seriously.

It's been announced that BT Sport have won the rights to show the Champions League for three years from 2015, taking the contract from Sky/ITV.

Early media reports said that this would mean the end of terrestrial coverage but they are now back-tracking as it's been pointed out that it is a UEFA rule that some matches must be free-to-air.

So either they'll do a deal with (most probably) ITV or (if they've got any money) BBC.

EDIT - it looks as if they won't be doing a deal with anybody - they'll be showing the fta games unscrambled on BT Sport

Once again the football fans get fucked people will just end up finding the live streams of the games on the net and watching like that now which already happens now anyway well done BT.
