The "Official Football thread" part two...
The old football thread keeps swallowing posts, so I'm starting this new one in the hope that it avoids the same problems. I'm going to put the last few posts into quotes on my next post to give some context, forgive me if I end up double posting...

I remember when Alan Curbishley got ousted from the West Ham manager job and a Hammers fan emailed into SkySports News saying "The reason we're not protesting outside our ground like Newcastle fans do, as that we have jobs to go to!"

mr gummidge Wrote:The solution to Newcastle's problems lies several years in the past. They should never have gotten rid of Sir Bobby. The man had a magnificent eye for a player and a brilliant way at drawing the best out of people, so he was able to keep Newcastle near the top of the table without spending obscene amounts of money. To get Newcastle out of trouble now will take several seasons and tens of millions of pounds that Ashley won't invest. Even if they stay up this season -not a nailed on certainty- then they're facing several seasons in the dogfight.

I have to post it again...

England 2 - 1 Ukraine

Anyone watched the match? Not a great performance from England, but a win is a win! Capello is a genius!

I think ur spot on Mr G! If Bobby Robson had've been allowed to carry on at that point Newcastle would probably be in the top 6 or 7 clubs now instead of the bottom 3....but I also feel that the fans aren't very helpful to the cause either....by demanding that only legends of their club Kevin Kegan, Alan Shearer et al they are hindering the chances of a new face coming in with new ideas and a fresh approach (which lets face it is probably what NUFC really need) and maybe turning there fortunes around.

I shouldnt really be complaining cos whilst Newcastle are in the shit its one less team challenging AVFC's run into Europe Big Grin
