I noticed late in 1987 that there were a few rock presences, like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Kiss. So it was popular enough then to get over, but besides the flowering of grunge, there hasn't really been anything like it since.

It's more of a Best of 1988 tomorrow night rather than the usual chart episode, and the 7.30 episode is a Wham Special

Yeah, but they always do the hour doc on the Story of the year first, then the compilation.

Enjoyed both shows, especially with the Big Hits stuff covering acts not mentioned in the main prog (eg Tanita Tikaram, Enya and Lewisham's own Maxi Priest). No Sabrina or the Timelords in either show, bar brief clips, not even any Vanessa Paradis. Nice to hear Maxi Priest is still a going concern, but Yazz lives on Malaga.

Sky Arts & Sky 1 showing stuff from the Isle of Wight Festival over the weekend.

BBC 4 start a 2-part doc on "Yacht Rock", which seems to be a certain light American sound.

Sky Arts are going OTT with metal repeats and stuff this weekend, partly to doll up stuff from Download, and that Babymetal concert.

Belatedly caught up with this, fun stuff. Maybe the oddest bit was Katie Puckrik going "oh yeah in 1976 I was young & vital and going out & having fun" which means she was in her 40s on the Word eek, and in her 60s or so now Surprised

EDIT - Wikipedia says she was born in '62, so she's slightly romancing about the late 70s, but still somewhat older than I thought in the 90s.

RE: Music On TV - Documentaries/Live Performances
There were a couple of new docs about Woodstock over the weekend. The BBC4 one did that thing where they just use audio (which covered up for Joe Cocker being a bit dead), but you did wonder how many of the other people involved were dead too.

The Sky Arts one also relied on folk who were there, several of whom seemed to have taken a Super 8 camera or similar along. Clarke Peters (Five Guys Named Moe etc) was also in the crowd, by an amazing coincidence. Some of the acts on the stage were more impressive than others. But given the craziness of the logistics, the weather and the huge numbers there, it's a small miracle it all worked out as it did.

Enjoyed the PSB gig on Sunday night from the R2 festival.

Fleetwood Mac fans will note BBC4 tonight is hammocking a new 90 minute doc on Christine McVie by repeating other F-Mac docs.

Otherwise it's Mods & Quads tomorrow night on Sky Arts as they celebrate The Who & Quadrophenia from around 7.30pm onwards.
