RE: New Desk Top Pc
(04-05-2014 11:26 )MikeGee Wrote: Hi Guys,
Can anyone give me any help or advice regarding buying a new Desk Top Pc for home. I don't want to go to PC World and get ripped off buying Anti Virus, windows etc, just want a Pc that's got everything I need so I can plug in and go. Want to spend between £300-£500 and hopefully that will include a decent printer.
Any advice regarding size of hard drive, screen etc would be appreciated.
Cheers
Mike
If you just want a pc to do some work on and browsing etc then you should be able to get a decent pc with 1tb hard disk, intel i5 or i7 chip or one of the AMD ones, 4-6gb ram with a 21 inch LED monitor for the top end of your budget. You won't probably be able to play any of the latest, more graphically intense games at a decent frame rate though.
PC World are ok in that you can come away with a PC so long as you tell them to bog off when they try to flog any of the extras.
Have a look at their website, select computers from the menu and then choose either desktop pc or laptop (whichever you are after). You can then set the filters to choose your requirements and it will display the available models. For example they have the Asus essentio M11AA pc with a 21" LED full HD monitor for £479-this has an i5 processor, Windows 8, 500gb HDD and 4gb ram. Can't vouch for it but it looks ok. Have a look at the PC World site and you will find reviews on the model from previous buyers.
Never buy the anti virus software from them, they will try and get you to buy the most expensive-just tell them you have it already. They will try and make it sound essential. Also you won't need extended insurance as the machine will have a minimum 1 year warranty and you can always get it added to your home insurance, possibly for no extra cost. Once they know where they stand they are usually fine-especially if you sound like or do know your stuff...most of them don't and talk absolute bollocks to the uninitiated. I once asked one of the sales people whether or not the pc I was looking had 12 or 16 gb ram. He looked at me blankly and said that it could hold upto 250,000 photos! Good luck
