Someone mentioned this to me a while ago, it's been going for about 10 years apparently, but I don't visit such places anymore so I wasn't paying much attention. Unfortunately I can only confirm what you've already said, that it's on Kennington Lane and takes place once a month.

Hi,
I was having drinks with some friends who like meet used to visit the pubs for strip shows and stags.
One guy was saying in Europe it is all Lapdancing and some of his work colleagues went to Prague and spent over £300.00 for the evening and this was without extras.
London is becoming a wasteland for these type of events, the Adult Cinemas have all closed, and of the pubs holding strip shows, The Flying Scotsman, The Queen Anne , The Lord Nelson , The Spiral Staircase. In Walthamstow Jim and Spuds events at Club Lick have gone, Jim dies around 2 years ago.
On a positive side The Tuesday Club is back, though Iain’s place near The Arsenal Stadium has gone and he has been looking for the last year.
The place on Kennington Lane, seems to be a secret place, one of the guys said last night that Kennington Lane had several venues around 15 years ago and this is the last one left so they may be worried about the authorities.
One old name came up in the 70s one of the first strippers I saw was Nicky Roberts at The Bull and Gate in Kentish Town, today she is in her 70s and living the life in a very nice home in Primrose Hill, so delighted for her.

I couldn't agree more, but why have so many venues closed down? Is it simply that the lap dancing clubs have taken over?

I think the underground clubs I knew and went to got busted a few times. Even if they re-appear, it puts off punters who don't want to be at the venue the next time the old bill show up.

Hi,
Of the old clubs they were closed down for a variety of reasons, back in the day a couple of the organisers fell out, both had their events on the same evening. One reported the other to the authorities, the other responded by reporting the other to HMRC and what is now UK Border Control, that would be early 1990s
Since then we have had a great deal of emphasis on property development which means the locations of the low cost venues are under threat. Best example of this is in Soho, Westminster Council gave approval for the development of some older Soho building and within a week the buildings were raided by the police as they were being used as walk-up brothels. In Kings Cross the area is being gentrified so The Flying Scotsman is being made into a gastro pub, close by there were two porn cinemas and the rumours were that they were closed to facilitate redevelopment. In Islington the Fantasy was closed, the rumour was it of do-gooders action, the place had been there for around 30 years.
Iain was closed down as HMRC wanted a word, he left for Portugal soon after but he has been reported as looking for a new venue. Whether a landlord will rent his premises out for stag nights is debateable as the police will challenge the further issue of a licence if caught.
The other thing is the lap dancing clubs offer glitz and glamour, they are able to attract some outstanding girls and the quality in the pubs did fall away. Factor the money the girls made in the lap dancing clubs, it is easy to understand why the quality of some of the girls who performed at stag shows was on the sad side, this was not always the case, I think in London we can all remember the glory days, with girls like Audrey, Stevie, Gill etc., we all have our favourites, would be nice to think that in their retirement they are living comfortably.
So would be nice to think one day the old days will return

London strip clubs New Venue
Hi,
Just to say one of the guys was saying there is a new venue, run by a guy called Bob, who back in the day had several shows at the Imperial Gardens in Camberwell, guy had got the information second hand but the location is reported to be in West London, the other bit of news is that the two of girls at the last show were students and another was a former model, so the quality is there.
Any other information appreciated PM if you like

No, I don't think it's as simple as that. The recent closure of the White Horse was due to a huge increase in the rent for the property, which is likely to become a pizza restaurant. It's the gentrification of the area I believe which is to blame for this development. The White Horse wasn't a big favourite of mine, but I did go there from time to time in the 80s and it's sad to see a strip venue disappear after being around for 38 years.

The stripping stopped in 2010. I remember visiting the Queen Anne in July that year, but when I went by a month later it was boarded up.

The Flying Scotsman has survived as a pub at least. It hasn't had striptease there since last September and was closed for a while, but it reopened under the new name of the Scottish Stores. Well not new name, it's reverted to its original name I should say (dating back to 1901).

RE: London strip clubs
Hello

Thought I'd contribute if that's OK?

I stopped stripping/lap dancing in clubs about 5 years ago... Maybe more. Strip pubs never appealed to me though.

The lap dancing clubs spelt the end of the traditional "strip pubs" in London.

It was glitz and glamour verses spit and sawdust as well as pressure from local authorities that eventually saw their demise.

I'm not totally out of the game as I still work for Limousine Strip which I find alot easier.
