Free Windows 10 Upgrade

Go for it, you have 30 days to try it within that time you can roll back to windows 7. There does seem to be an issue with the windows repair disc though, but you can always fresh install your op, you should have one or a recovery partition on your hdd.

I have windows 8.1 and there are times I wish I was on windows 95 to me that was the most easy going version of windows I've ever used!!

I'm looking right now at creating restore point, it shows Windows (System) Protection is on and Recovery Image (D) is showing as off. Should both be on before I go ahead and create restore point? I know I did a back up to a External HDD about thee months ago, should I also do a fresh back up now before downloading windows 10 or just go ahead and create restore point?

no need to create a restore point if your just downloading the iso.
if your upgrade installing (run the app from inside windows) you can choose to keep all your files and settings, although this does take a lot longer to perform the upgrade.
you are given options to keep your settings alone which will keep your user files intact but will clear out the installed apps in c:programfiles/programfiles(x86)
and the final option is basically a fresh install. which is the shortest option.

all you will realy need to back up will be your user files. if anything goes wrong there all you really need to keep as the software its self can be installed easily enough.
but user data is personal so should be backed up befor you attempt the upgrade.

so I would lose my games?

Takes me back to uni when the techs were first installing it, well briefly 3.1, i had that for years untill it couldn't run programs any more.

Also a curse, internet was new then too, had all the freshers emailing one another when they were sat facing each other; we were TRYING to finnish stuff for our finals

It's like HEX!T said, if you choose keep your files and settings absolutley everything will be the same; there wasn't any difference in my desktop at all, other than a new overcoat and it was hunt the programs. But (for me) it was essentially windows 7 with a face lift; i'd imagine it would be smoother with windows 8.

All my programs were there and run perfectly fine, thought I can't speak for games personally, I don't see any reaosn why they wouldn't be still there.

There was only two perculiarity with programs, when installing it on the laptop it asked me to removed disc keeper since it was incompatible with windows 10, however, it works perfectly fine on my desktop windows 10. The only other issue was on both laptop and desk top, Elsawin would not work with an error message 'not a liscense version', this I found to be most interesting becasue it was a pirated version from ebay, it does though work fine on windows 7.

games for the most part run fine. the only 1 so far that ive seen have issues is cod AW 2 some people reporting having dx errors.
personally ive tried gta 5, witcher 3, farcry 4, bf3/4, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Project CARS, kholat and batman arkham knight all work.
just make sure you have the latest driver updates for win10 on the gpu. both amd and nvidia released new 1s.

Just to say that my graphic card had to be taken out it being a Gefore 210, but it has issues with realtex driver in windows 7

I've got the upgrade now I chose to do it tomorrow where would I find the options to keep files and settings?
