Free Windows 10 Upgrade

windows 8.1 was an improvement on vista.

That is the bit of this Free upgrade that worries me as well since I bought my pc with windows 8 pre installed and I'm wondering would my external hard drive be enough to re install my pc as it is now if I didn't like windows 10? Or should I look at getting a second hand laptop or pc and put windows 10 on that to be on the safe side?

Well the free upgrade is only optional. Although I signed up to it I don't think I'll be in any hurry to change to Windows 10 until a few people have done it first and passed enough positive reviews on it.

What you could do babelover48 which is what I'll be doing is creating a restoration point so that if I do decide to go for the upgrade and hate it then I can easily resort back to Windows 8.1

The Windows 10 for free option is only valid for a year, after that you would have to pay to get it, well a legit copy anyway.
They have announced Windows 10 as the last Windows, there won't be a Windows 10.1 or 11 as I understand it, there's only gonna be upgrades/updates presumably all free upgrades.

If you install 10 and don't like it then it's no problem, just go to "update and recovery" and reinstall Windows and it should reinstall what your machine was prebuilt with. If that was 8 and you want 8.1 back just use the free upgrade in the windows store. All simple really.

i have downloaded windows 10 and it looks better. the start menu is back and looks good. no more going to the start screen to access apps. it can be an hour or more for the installation to be done.

has an non tech/computer guy I think windows 10 is a lot than vista and windows 8/8.1, no mores start screen, everything is done on one screen with windows for each app/programme. the great thing about the start menu is that you have set the way you want it. windows 10 feels more the windows of old without having to drag the mouse the right to the start menu to shut down the computer.

I hope this the last os from Microsoft has they finally got a decent one, windows 7 was the best of xp and vista and windows 10 is windows 7 with the best bits of windows 8/8.1. I am sticking with windows 10.

the reviews of windows 10 so far been good, of course there will be issues with it but that is expected and continued updates will iron out any issues and make it a lot smoother.

the only issue I have is internet explorer is replace by Microsoft edge and there is no way adding add ons like adblockers or anti-tracking.

turns out its a bit of a dog to use the upgrade option rather than the fresh install if you have win 7..
i and many otheres were presented with sorry we cant change the size of the system reserved partition.

then when i finally sorted that little cherry out. windows decided to add an update which caused explorer to constantly crash if i connected the ethernet cable.
guess whos back to windows 7?.

I received notification of the Windows 10 upgrade coming soon a few weeks back, and have actually reserved my free upgrade. Does this mean that I'll get another notification when it is available for download or will there be an email saying when it's ready?

I'm worried because I too have Windows 7, using Google Chrome, at the moment and I can't help feeling that maybe 10 is not all it's cracked up to be - I don't want my internet connection getting screwed up because of incompatible upgrades that you only find out after it's too late. What should happen next?

no mate it will just appear in your windows update log. 1s it does just click on it to start the install.

it is a jump from win7 to win10, I have not had any issues with using win10.
