Labour Leadership Contest
Having watched the recent Labour Leadership debates, I was wondering who people thought would make the best leader of the Labour party.

Personally I think Labour needs someone who represents traditional socialist values and beliefs, as well as being the antithesis of everything the Tory party stands for. The only one who comes close to that is Jeremy Corbyn.

What do other people think?

“Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world.”
— Henry Kissinger

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

RE: Labour Leadership Contest
The problem according to the politics pundits anyway is that an agenda that is too left wing rarely wins general elections.
It seems now to be a case of trying to claim the political centre ground and launching a manifesto accordingly.
The priority of the unions may well be somewhat different to the priority of the parliamentary party and those at grass roots level who are more concerned with having a chance of winning an election than anything else.

RE: Labour Leadership Contest
None of the candidates are up to much, Cooper, Kendall and Burnham are one of the reasons labour lost the last election, part of a disconnected westminster elite who are completely out of touch with the needs and concerns of the working man. They have a sneering and condescending attitude, believing they know best and dismissing anyone who disagrees with them as being close minded or bigoted, thats why so many labour supporters turned to UKIP instead. Jeremy Corbyn may not be everyones cup of tea (and he is certainly not mine) at least he seems to genuinely believe in what he says and he has a lot more in common with the rank and file labour members than the other three.

Cant really blame Kendall for the loss she was hardly in goverment and in the opposition cabinet long enough. of all the candidates Kendall is most likely to winning an election. So she wont get elected

Already talk of if Corbyn wins the the parlimenty party will oust him.

The one the tories were really scared off was Dan Jarvis hopefully someone from this last intake will be ready to take over in 5 years Kinnocks son might be a good choice better than his dad at politics and he has the ex danish prime minister as a missus the fit one that Obama and Cameron were having selfies with at mandela's funeral Wink

Jarvis would have been a good choice but unfortunately choose not to run, the problem for Kendall is people will always associate her with labour,s failure to win the last election wether or not she played a major part, the same would apply to most of her colleagues. The Tories did not win the last election because people liked their policies but they were quite simply the lesser of two evils. A labour party which refused to admit to the mistakes of the past and had no coherent economic policy. Because Jeremy corbyn had a relatively low profile compared to the other three he does not carry the same baggage they do.

RE: Labour Leadership Contest
I suppose ultimately it depends what the party membership considers the most important, election success or political values. Someone like Andy Burnham is more media friendly and would have more chance of winning an election, but whats the point of Labour winning if its just going to be another version of the Tories. The reason the Labour party was all but wiped out in Scotland was because they were seen as becoming just another branch of the Tory party and failed to stand up to the austerity myth.
At a time when the Tories are embarked on a course of using a crisis created by the bankers as an excuse to divert more money into the pockets of the elite and to dismantle the NHS and with Slimy Dave about to introduce his 'English Votes for English Laws nonsense (EVEL) effectively destroying the notion of a United Kingdom and creating a Tory dictatorship in Westminster its time for Labour to get back to what it was formed for and once was, a voice for the weakest and poorest in society, to return to being a socialist party.
Maybe it won't win the next election, the right wing press will see to that, but its time to make politics about principles again. The only candidate who appears to represent this is Jeremy Corbyn that's why he is gaining so much support with the rank and file.

RE: Labour Leadership Contest
Labour stopped being the party of the working man when they elected blair and became so called new labour and are no different from the tories. they were responsible for the abolishing many of the banking regulations which led to the financial crisis, they also created many of the tax evasion loopholes so their friends in big business could avoid paying there fair share, as for being the saviours of the nhs, the biggest privatisation in the history of the nhs happened under labour, and anyone who thinks andy burnham should be labour leader would do well to remember he is responsible for the mess the nhs is in today.
