I apologize for the phrase "blow holes in your proposals". I disagree with you about your ideas for international football snookered, and make no apologies for that, but it wasn't my intention to aggressively shoot down your post.

But WHB has basically agreed with me on almost everything, in different words and in more eloquent paragraphs. He just called your idea nonsensical and ridiculous. Crazy was the furthest I went. WHB's better with words than me, granted.

That's my last post in this subject, I think I've made my views clear.

Mr Bonney. Sorry for the delay in responding.
Long and frustrating day at work Sad annoyed.
Thank you for your post. It was very enlightening.
I hope I set out what I wanted to achieve even if the specific method outlined has it's flaws.
The sponsorship concerns you raise are realistic and on reflection I agree with that aspect of what you say.
Indeed this would be a major argument against a World League, certainly one with a lot of divisions.
I would hope that sponsors would sponsor the whole league in unison but I accept this may well be a forlorn hope Sad.
The TV rights point is a valid one too in all honesty.

The competitive matches issue is an interesting one.
My intention was to create a divisional structure where the teams are of a similar quality in the hope that in this sense at least matches would be competitive in the sense the gap in quality would be relatively small.
In theory extreme outcomes could materialize where relegation and promotion issues end up being decided long before the end of the four year cycle. In practice I would hope that the outcomes would be decided somewhere nearer the end of the cycle on the basis of an attempt to allow the ability levels of teams within each division to be relatively similar.
But maybe that is a forlorn hope too Huh.
Maybe it might be a case of have slightly more divisions with less teams in them with the league played over a shorter cycle.
But then maybe there would be too many divisions and the lower league nations would be demotivated by having to go through endless promotions Huh.
This being said however I would point out that in a fair few of the qualifying groups for major competitions a fair few teams end up having nothing to play for and no hope of qualification quite rapidly into the process anyway Huh.

Maybe the world is too big Huh laugh.
Maybe the travel distance for certain nations is a demotivating factor for lower league nations Huh.

I suppose what I was trying to achieve is a non knockout tournament played over a long enough cycle for consistency over a period of games and time to win out.
Also to allow players a chance to make a meaningful contribution to a longer competition rather than play a major knockout comp such as the World Cup at the end of a long hard club season and therefore in many cases not perform at their peak as a result.
I do concede however that tournaments such as The African Cup of Nations have fallen in the middle third of European club seasons.
I was also trying to eliminate the bidding processes for reasons I have outlined already.

I take your point that not all qualification systems are the same around the world though.

I suppose I have always preferred a league system where football is concerned and don't see much value in matches between nations of vastly different ability levels Huh.
But maybe there is no way to achieve a non knockout World competition Huh.

Oh well back to the drawing board Huh.
