M & Store closures

Marks & Spencers have just released a list of home & clothing stores earmarked for possible closure

Christ getting rid of both the local ones to me Preston and Bolton. Preston one is right opposite the BHS store that closed Christ closing Blackpool to !!!

Nottingham and Manchester as well as Birmingham and Coventry, just shows how far the high streets have fallen.
With the 2017 Rates Review this could be a 40% rise in rates and that would be to much.
I used to visit the M&S in Frankfurt, Germany and on a Friday evening it was a wonderful place to visit for a glass of champagne. Sadly under another chairman that store closed though it was operating profitabley, same as the Paris stores.
Today online has such an influence on shopping it has turned the high street into coffee outlets and Greggs

But which Preston Store will it be? I think you are correct that it will be the one on Fishergate and not the one at Deepdale Retail Park.

Think its the main store in Preston Didnt know there was a Store in Deepdale never go there . Theres a newerstore near Boltons footie ground as well. Was watching business news a few weeks back and said they were planning to liquidate some of there propertys guessing main shops in main towns and then renting out of town now

I think it will be a sad sight seeing less stores with the M & S brand on the high street In my part of Hertfordshire if we lose the one in St Albans my part of Herts is served only by the store at London Colney and the one in my town (Welwyn Garden City) having already lost the one in Stevenage The only other main M & S store near to me would probably be in Watford

would agree surely another nail in the coffin of the high street but I think when you look at the list of brands that have disappeared from the high street over the last 10 -15 years, I would say, it is pretty shocking
to see, one thing is certain one main reason for the decline of high street shopping has been the rise in shopping centres and business rates of course, and you can add in to that the failure of brands to capitalise on the online shopping market early on.
