NHS Cyber attack

The NSA supposedly had this exploit for some time, maybe years, but chose not to tell microsoft about it, but use it for their own nefarious purposes. Consequently, MS only recently became aware of it, and released a security patch for it in march.
It's not uncommon that big enterprises running ancient operating systems like XP will also fail to install the updates, hence being vulnerable to attacks in this way.

And to think the NSA wanted Apple to build a back door into Iphones

Apparently the Nissan Plant in sunderland is now been hit with it

It seems that Microsoft have released patches for out-of-suppoort software, such as XP, in addition to those released in March for current versions.

Why don't they just install McAfee or AVG

Looking through some of the political tweets today, the government stopped funding XP support for it's systems in England 2 years ago.
But whether that's accurate for this case or just political spin or what, I don't know.

Because the exploit is still there just need to rename the code to something else and change the code slightly

scary thing was this malware only used 4 out of 20 exploits the Leaked NSA code showed so could be a lot more to go

I wonder how many records could have been stolen with this along with personal details...

That wouldn't have worked. Most of the infected computers DID have antivirus.
