London Tower Block Fire

I hope this was an accident and not malicious but kennsington and chelsea council have had a few scandals in the past.

I was watching them talking to witnesses this morning, one guy said that the fire started when his neighbours fridge went up in flames on the fourth floor, at that point they started to leave, it then went from a section of the building to climbing up one side and spreading inwards very quickly.
Apparently they've suffered from power surges, so that, along with the cladding and refurbishment, lack of sprinklers, an alarm that sounded late and so on, seem to have led to this tragedy...according to what's been said so far.

The initial cause is almost a side issue. The fire should not spread as far and as fast as it obviously did. The new external cladding will be the prime suspect. Either it's not non combustible, which is very unlikely unless it's been shipped in quietly from abroad, or it hasn't been properly fire-stopped between floors.

there has been concerns about external cladding on sevrel apartments that have gone up in flames in Dubai including that one right by the burj khalifa

To be honest i thought combustible external cladding had been banned. I'm amazed that it hasn't!

If it WAS shipped in quietly, they probably didn't realise it was combustible and bought it thinking it wasn't. I'm sure they were aware that cladding had been banned but had been given assurance whoever they bought it from that it was safe.

One way or another 12 people have needlessly died and thoughts and condolence to all those close to those victims.

Supposedly the exterior cladding was put on to make it look prettier for the posh people around who had to look at it.

Bet they're chuffed with how it looks now

9m quid for improvements?? wonder how many pockets got greased from that???? ffs they could of built some new decent housing for that

That's my thinking too they could have demolished that tower and replaced it with a good looking housing estate that the residents who lived in it could be proud of Certainly there now have to be some very serous questions raised in connection with this tragedy in the inquest especially where fire regulation and safety is concerned
