Nope, sadly. There's many ways they can help anonymously.

i mean ffs, why do you have to have that tone in your posts. maybe she does care. it doesn't always have to be a nefarious conspiracy!

Think she'll have to apologise on behalve of us all.

This time, my cynical sarcasm is fully intended for these sickening celebs getting publicity.

Something I've noticed in my sporadic visits to the forum is that Wackawoo is someone with whom I quite often disagree. This occasion is no exception. What I will say though is that I do to a degree sympathise with his current position as it is one that I used to hold in these situations.

I used to be the one who'd see Bono doing his bit for Africa and say 'Ah thank you Bono, flying over in his private jet to insist we all spare a bit of money for the people of Africa' or 'These celebrities gaining personal capital from the struggles of others'. Basically seeing the cynical side of how people react to these horrific events.

Maybe I thought 'Wow! I'm so edgy! I say what no one else has the balls to say! I say what everyone is thinking!'

But I suppose it is since things like Facebook and Twitter have grown in popularity and we're continuously exposed to EVERYBODY'S bloody opinion that I've realised it actually isn't that edgy at all. No one is afraid to say it.

I've read it myself. People saying 'Aww Adele is here, Lily Allen has come, they must have new singles to promote' and I just read it and think... Is this what I sound like? Is this how I look when I talk like this?

Not really a space I want to inhabit anymore. Now I'm of the view, if it helps these people in really horrible situations to know that celebrities care enough to be there at all, then its good thing. Whatever their intention or motive.

Therein lies the point, but you have not understood.

Did any of those people who have lost their homes, and more importantly their families, ask for these celebs to be there? Does it make them feel any better that Adele was there? What can they do that all those Fire, Ambulance and police can't do?

If they want to help out, donate and visit this is fine; but lets not make the news story about them shall we? They can do these things in pvt, if any critism (I doubt there would be) comes along, then they can say, 'well actually I...'

I'm all for celebs doing something, they can do something, they don't have to get publicity from doing it.

Lily Allen may live in the area, she doesn't live THERE, she can help out, but she doesn't have to give interviews stating the obvious and then bemoaning all over the press that her contributiuon was cut out of news night.

Why did we need to know it was Jamie Oliver behind the chefs? they could have just been chefs.

If I had lost my wife, child, mother in a horrible way like that, I couldn't give a fuck what celeb was there, nor the PM, nor the Queen.

(this is not aimed at you rammy, it's aimed at who ever made the twitter post and others in the media)

Yes the letters were dated the 14th June, but as I've said they were hand delivered to residents today, they were not sent in the post, which is what people are so angry etc about. Surely someone at the organisation that runs the tower block or the council would have delayed delivering the letters until the dust has settled.

So when IS a good time to send the letters out? Next week, next month, next year?

As harsh as it seems, life goes on. A tragedy in one building doesn't stop the lives of others being made an absolute misery by scummy behaviour and the council / housing association have a duty to act. They get plenty of flack for not bending over backwards for some tenants and more flack when they actually do something.

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

Just watched evening news. Theresa May seems incapable of showing any humility or understanding of peoples feelings. Just robot answers and evasion of questions, and no trust in any of her answers. People are sick of the way the CONservatives treat the general public, it has to change.

RE: London Tower Block Fire
I don't have a problem with celebs visiting the area. They are not doing any actual harm. Indeed Jamie Oliver was actually trying to do something constructive and positive. And even if it's just a case of wanting to show that they care that is no bad thing either.
I am extremely dubious about any idea that celebrities are cashing in on tragedy in any sense. I rather tend to think they have been stunned by the scale of events.
If they want to make donations all good. If they want to just convey a message that they care all good irrespective of whether it gets publicity on a huge scale or not.

The residents affected who require help in the short term need it as quickly, constructively, sensitively and fully as possible. In my judgement it is both irresponsible and unhelpful for anyone to start casting judgement before all facts are known. Political capital should not be made by anyone at this time. ALL those with any degree of responsibility and accountability should face the relevant questions when appropriate.
In the longer term the hows, whys and what nexts need to be properly looked into with no stone left unturned.
The residents affected want and deserve answers. The residents of tower blocks everywhere will no doubt be keen for answers too.
The key test is that lessons are truly learnt and acted upon fully and transparently in future.
