William Huskisson M.P.becomes the first passenger to be killed by a railway locomotive, at the opening ceremony of the Liverpool and Manchester railway in 1830.
(He didn't move off the tracks out of the way quickly enough and it couldn't stop in time.)

173 years later (when sympathy from the public for M.P.'s meeting with fatal accidents was probably only slightly higher than it would be today) and arguably much more momentously, after a few months' absence, Lolly Badcock was back on TV and ready to play on the evening of 15th September 2013....
