Smile British/UK TV Shows - Discussion
Couldn't see one of these as it seems to be dominated by Yank shows so here is where you can post about and discuss British TV Shows that haven't been discussed before including new shows.

Starters: Most of us at the Gerry Anderson Appreciation Society or FANDERSON are excited about the long-awaited return of series 2(after a 5 month hiatus from Christmas) of THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO! and equally intrigued to see that US star Lee Majors(Six Million Dollar Man and Colt Seavers in The Fall Guy) will be doing a voice on the computer-animated reboot. He is playing the voice of Jeff Tracy, father of the Tracy Brothers(Scott, Alan, Gordon, John and Virgil) except that he has not been in the first two series so this is going to be VERY interesting as it seemed that somehow he was dead! Starts next Saturday on CITV in the morning I assume.

Killing Eve, the amazing drama from last year on BBC1 is returning for a second series and should be on screen in a few weeks time.

RE: British/UK TV Shows-Discussion
Last night was the annual luvvie fest that is the BAFTA Television awards and thank god they didn't give the comedy performance to Ant and Dec for the 19th time or whatever it is, instead they saw sense and gave it to Lee Mack for Would I Lie To You? and Killing Eve and The Bodyguard also won major awards. Benedict Cumberbatch was the best actor for Patrick Melrose(Sky Atlantic), Fiona Shaw best supporting female(Killing Eve), Ben Wishaw best supporting male(A Very British Scandal) and Bodyguard won the people's must-see television event award. Jodie Comer took best actress for Killing Eve(beating her co-star Sandra Oh who wasn't even there) and Eastenders won the best soap/on-going drama award-pity one of it's stars Danny Dyer had to open his mouth and put his awe in about Cameron again-they bleeped him out thankfully. Dame Joan Bakewell was the Fellowship recipient this year(or Dame Joan Bakelite as she was once called) once known as the 'thinking man's crumpet' Coverage of the England v Sweden quarter-final in the World Cup last year won best sporting event for the BBC.

I've been watching BBC's new comedy series 'Ghosts'.
It's a weird watch. There's some good one liners but.................... the jury is out.

Me too, it's very funny and refreshing that the language is such that you could watch with a family. It is written and performed by the cast of Horrible Histories with the same sort of clever jokes and writing that you would get from the HH series(which was brilliant) and some good pathos added for good measure. I hope there is a Series 2.

Another one of my favourite shows is in afternoons - The Repair Shop. Ordinary people take their heirlooms or keepsakes that are in terrible states of disrepair to some top experts to work their magic and transform the look of it. Sometimes they keep a lot of the detail and just do minor things, but other times it requires a complete transformation like a worn-out teddy bear. What makes this a must-see is the amazing stories that surround the objects, sometimes featuring something that made it through a World War and has incredible history. You can apply online and the series will return for a sixth series next year.

Problem is with Mr T Davies is you virtually know whatever he writes is going to include someone gay, in this case(and I didn't watch last night) Russell Tovey, who is gay in real life. I suppose you either like that sort of thing or not; personally watching two men kissing is just weird to me, but over the years attitudes have changed, but I still cannot stand Alan Carr or anyone who is over-the-top camp, in your face character. I see the critics weren't that enamoured with it either.

'Gentleman Jack'-the story of a woman who kept her lesbian life a secret(written in diaries in code) and now starring Suranne Jones in a major 6 pt BBC series has already been re-commissioned for a second series.

Killing Eve, the highly-acclaimed thriller series from last year will return very soon to the BBC for a second series, already seen in the US and starring BAFTA-award-winning actress Jodie Comer as Villanelle and American actress Sandra Oh as Eve. A third series apparently is in the pipeline.

Our Girl is currently filming for a new series to be seen next year. The story of an ordinary girl who makes it into the Army, once played by Lacey Turner(Eastenders) and now by Michelle Keegan.

Still no news as to whether there will be a third series(although I would be very surprised if there wasn't) of afternoon detective series Shakespeare and Hathaway, starring Mark Benton(Frank Hathaway) and Jo Joyner(Lu Shakespeare) which has been a big hit with audiences on BBC1.

A new adaptation of Rogue Heroes-The Story of the SAS written by Ben McIntyre and shown as a 3 pt documentary last year is being made into a series and is rumoured to feature actor Tom Hardy playing the main role. More news as it comes out.

Comedy series Ghosts that aired on Mondays on BBC1 is to be renewed for a second series as it garnered a very healthy 3.7m viewers. Made by the Horrible Histories team.

BBC1's Death in Paradise and Call the Midwife are currently filming with C.T.M. Christmas special this year heralding series 8 in 2020. D.I.P. is due to air early to mid January 2020.

63 Up returns next week for a three day update. The main series was originally called 7 Up decided to do an experiment back in the 1950's by following a group of 12 different kids (from all backgrounds in life) I think it was and watching them develop over 7 year increments; the way they grew up and experienced the world, coping with all sorts of things. The last time we caught up with the people involved they were 56 yrs old and this latest series on ITV(it alternated with the BBC) will follow 8 of the original 12-some didn't want to carry on with the project. The first of 3 update programmes starts on Tuesday at 9pm on ITV1.
