Jimmy white was as good last night as Joe Johnson was awful. Poor old Joe's attempted roll up behind the yellow mist be the worst shot I have ever seen on TV.

Dennis Taylor gallantly got drubbed 4-1, though his winning the 4th frame was the highlight, as he pinched it on the black, after a ferocious blue.

It's odd how the long potting can at times be stunningly good.

The mix of commentary teams is bemusing too; tonight Dennis joining Joe Johnson to do the Hendry-Bond match. Dennis' own match was lumbered with Ken Doherty and Mike "we used to call that the fishermens tackle" Dunn.

Cooper was a late replacement for Tony Drago, they said. It is odd to watch a tournament where half the people are very recognisable indeed, and the other half really aren't.

Is that really Tony Knowles on commentary ?
