Saving Britain's Pub

Watched the 2nd episode of this TV programme over the weekend, a 4 part series, BBC2 20.00 Thursday nights. Presented by Tom Kerridge the owner of the first pubto receive a Michelin Star.
Really moving watch, & something that I feel strongly about. I've had some of the best times, eating drinking & socializing in pubs & just hope that these businesses can survive when we get out of this mess.

My village has gone from having 5 pubs to just 2 over the years & that's pretty common.
Latest stats show that one pub will permanently close down every 12 hours.

2019 Closed - 473
2020 Closed - (up to start of September) 315

Yeh, lol, it was the name of the TV series so I went with that.

To be honest, the selfish side of me would be happy if they could save just one of my 2 village pubs.

Welsh brewer Brains has handed over the running of 156 pubs to Marston's, saving 1,300 jobs.

what's the likelyhood we'll see actual British Brewers going out of business if nothing is done and how many British ales and Beers could disappear through the pandemic?

i'd daresay it's the village pubs that are hit the hardest, because when you think about it, the pubs are the very heartbeat of any village, for socialising at the end of thje day or the end of a working week, and looking at the figures above if pubs do close at a rate of one every 12 hours, then I reckon the 2020 figure could get mighty close to last year's closures figure.
I'd say everyday that passes without the government providing real financial support to the industry, the quicker that closure figure rises.

Pubs are allowed to offer a take-away food service, but not take-away alcoholic drinks, You can buy alcohol from an Off-licence or Supermarket, which would require visiting two places, & increase the number of potential contacts. Another rule with no logic whatsoever.

I do wonder how many pubs/restaurants will survive the pandemic.

Suggestions as the how we will see an easing of the current lockdown, include opening pubs by April, but with an alcohol ban. That would be like running a brothel without prostitutes.
