sinn fein don't swear allegiance to any monarch. they can't take their seat in parliament or partake in votes.

The BBC set up an on line complaints page for viewers to register their objections to how the BBC had dealt with the wall to wall coverage of the Duke of Edinburgh.

It's had over 100,000 complaints registered.

Not surprising that the viewing figures for all the channels has dipped drastically over the last few days.

One of the things that I have always admired about he BBC is its ability to be open about its issues with the viewing public. Problems at The BBC are highlighted on their major news broadcasts, issues like how much they pay their big stars, gender & race pay gaps, how they dealt with Naga Munchetty & Trump get talked about on shows like Victoria Derbyshire or Today where they have guests on to lambast their weaknesses. They have their behind the scenes people interrogated on screen.

Even if they fall short no other institution in the world: Government, broadcaster, private business, public sector organisation opens itself up voluntarily to as much scrutiny as The BBC & broadcast said scrutiny on its own platform

Millions of people dying of covid don't get so much as a name check but one lucky privileged guy dies and gets an entire TV network dedicated to him for 48 hours.

He did care about climate change though.
He used to talk about it whilst flying from one of his palaces to another in his private jet.

When you think about it 99 is still a grand age

They do however (shamefully) take - and are allowed to take - their allowances for being absentee MPs.

I have to say that I concur with all those who complained about the wall - to - wall coverage to the extent they did! I am an unapologetic Royalist, but this was clear agenda setting (yet again) from the BBC, and in some respects, cheapened the tributes and memories recalled by many.

To base their complaints around missing out on the likes of eastenders, masterchef etc speaks volumes.

So what do we make of the Bashir report and where it leaves the BBC? If I remember rightly, didn't Charles do one with Jonathon Dimbleby before or after Diana's? Bashir I think used her vulnerabilty to gain an interview.
