Anyone angered or offended by McEnroe’s comments needs to relax and stop being so sensitive

Unfair to say she bottled it. She came from obscurity to being the heir apparent to Andy Murray in just 3 days. The TV and press coverage was completely over the top.

Just give her a chance to develop in her own time, this was her first grand slam tournament, let's keep things in perspective.

yep that was brilliant as people called him out for storming off gmb in a huff after he criticised Emma for a lack of resilience & mental toughness

He’s not responsible for how the press hyped her up. McEnroe said it may have got to her. Which isn’t an unfair comment. She’s a young girl that came out of nowhere and all of a sudden has loads of pressure out on her. He’s paid to give his opinion on what he thought was happening. He’s said way worse about young male players and no one cared. Zverev for years calling him a choker for his double faults and Djokovic back in the day for all his retirements. People only jumping on it because he’s an old guy talking about a young girl.

Even so it is now down to to the press/TV companies/Social Media to take a step or two back and let her develop, practice in peace and quiet and have normal 18 year old girls' life for once and not harass her. The LTA need to step up and offer her support and protection that she needs.

Yer fickle lot Wink

Federer bit the dust in straight sets, to Hubert Hurkacz, who'll play Berrettini in the semi-final; Djokovic faces Shapovalov (beautiful Canadian name) in the other.

Some Brits got through in the assorted doubles.

RE: Wimbledon 2021
It's sad to say, and believe me, I do feel sad for saying this, but it seems that Federer can't live with these young guys anymore. Especially if he's played less than 20 matches this year.

In my eyes, Roger Federer is currently the greatest player in the history of the sport. His records stand alone, and there are many of them that put even Djokovic, Nadal and Murray firmly in the shade.

But isn't it a fact of life, sadly, that as we get older, our bodies are slower to recover and less able to generate the pace and focus required, even for the simplest of tasks, let alone playing, and winning a best of five set tennis match? I know it is for me. Not that I've ever had a chance of competing in a tennis tournament, but hopefully you get what I mean. Sad

Roger Federer's been one of my heroes, having grown up watching this man sweep all contenders before him and achieving virtually every achievement that tennis has to offer. Today's loss is a hard one to take though. I actually suspect even more now that Djokovic will end up surpassing both Federer and Nadal in terms of titles and length of time spent at the top of the game.

Will we see Roger back at SW19 and winning the title again? I thoroughly hope so. My heart says yes - wouldn't it be wonderful to see this living legend climb to the top of the mountain one more time. My head however, says no we won't. Such a decision should be left to the great man himself, he's certainly more than earned the right to do so.

Maybe though, just maybe, there is sufficient evidence to support a decision to retire whilst still at the pinnacle of his prowess.

The latest surgeries, rust, lack of game time defo played a big part as on grass he’s still a force and his only real shot at anymore grand slams. In terms on retiring at his pinnacle that would’ve been about 2010, when a few years prior he was almost unbeatable on hard or grass for about 4/5 seasons. Since 2011 Djokovic and nadal have pretty much cleaned up. I can see him giving himself another shot at Wimbledon next year before retiring.

Blimey, most players would be more than chuffed with a quarter-final appearance, even if he faded towards the end. Yes, he has high standards, and yes, he's coming to the end of a long and incredible career, and no, I doubt he'll win it again. But retirement? Don't have a cow, man!
