I don't know why people would buy these things, but Playboy has a huge range of this kind of stuff and seems to be highly successful with it.

You never know what people will buy. Some years ago now I visited the Jack The Ripper pub in Whitechapel a few times. I was always amused by the Jack The Ripper t-shirts and baseball caps on sale there. I know the place was something of a tourist attraction, being on the Ripper tour route as a pub that was around in the Ripper's time and frequented by all his victims, but even so I found it hard to fathom that anyone would want to wear a Jack The Ripper t-shirt. Maybe nobody really wore them and people just bought them as a souvenir.

Playboy merchandising is an enormous business. The Playboy bunny logo is everywhere.

Yes and (for some reason) women are big buyers of Playboy branded items.

I don't see any parallel between Babestation and Playboy, because Playboy has a very distinctive logo which helps drive their sales, it's the core of their brand, whereas the Babestation items are largely using just the Babestation name.

Playboy brand was glamourous, Hollywood, Parties whereas Babestation is talking to a Northern bird covered in tattoos having a cheeky wank whilst the Mrs goes shopping

If you look at the history of the word 'glamour', referenced here: http://k-punk.abstractdynamics.org/archives/004115.html a different kind of bs that surrounded Hugh Hefner, when alive, is a twist on the word.
If you can separate the brand, from the sleazy creep, then there is some more favourable glamour.
Not necessarily that far removed from BS, however, given that there was a rival channel with the brand.

Given that the potential market would be mainly younger people, I would have expected to see baseball caps in the range. Or maybe other hats. Plus if they were starting this range a year or two ago they could have offered Babestation face masks!
