Eurovision 2023
It's now been decided that the BBC will host the next contest.

They are presently looking for a host city for the venue.

RE: Eurovision 2023
Stadiums are needed with more than at least a 10K capacity.

Manchester area can hold up to 21k
The O2 in London holds up to 20k.
The OVO Arena in Glasgow holds 14.k
Birmingham Arena holds 15.8k

Other cities with a lesser capacity indoor stadium are, Sheffield, Liverpool, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Nottingham & Belfast.

But there is other criteria that is needed like accommodation & close airport.

I think that you are looking at Manchester or London, but they will have to sort out their staffing problems at the airports.

I doubt the Ukrainians will want it in another war zone so that's Glasgow ruled out Tongue

Amazing that with all the cutbacks, both to personnel (that is not such a great issue for me) and to output, the BBC can find it's way clear to step in on this occasion - who will bare the cost??. I guess that will be us again. without any referral or even attempt to ascertain whether we want the damn thing! I understand the Ukrainian issue - really I do - with the contest due to be held there, but why are we the only ones to step forward?? Does the rest of the Eurovision family not have equal - or maybe, greater means to enable them to step in?

I rather hope Ukrainian tennis player Elina Monfils hosts it with her French tennis playing husband Gael Monfils alongside an established British presenter to compliment them.

If you type "who pays for the Eurovision Song Contest" into Google, the first hit answers your question.

In short, EBU members pay in and the host country pays an additional amount up to about €20 million, so a piss in the pond in economic terms.

Personally I'd like to see us give the keys to the venue to the Ukrainian Organising Committee, tell them to give us a shopping list and let them get on with it.

We weren't the only ones. Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden were all interested, but we came 2nd last time so it was felt that we had the best claim.

RE: Eurovision 2023
I was hoping for Darlington, really. Sadly the magic of Harrogate '82 will never come again. At least bloody London didn't make it.

I also gather that whoever gets it will have to elbow someone out of their booking because understandably places are booked up to kingdom come after the pandemic hiatus.

I'll vote for Leeds, or failing that Sheffield because I don't doubt Jarvis would love to do Common bloody People as the interval act.
