Commonwealth Games - Birmingham 2022

The crowds at Birmingham 2022 have been excellent so far across all the different sports.
The athletics started today and the stadium has been packed out for both sessions.
Very pleasing to see.

A golden boost for Katerina Johnson-Thompson after a series of problems in the last 12 months. Defends her Heptathlon title with a smile.

Eilish McColgan with a stunningly gritty run to win the 10,000m for Scotland with a final lap surge as the crowd roared her on.

God, squash is so boring as a spectator sport.
It's probably great to play, but it's not one to watch.

Being good to view is probably why there's no basketball but there is a seldom played 3x3 basketball. And there's no volleyball but there is beach volleyball.

My fellow Wulfrunians turned out in big numbers to support the Cycling time trial today starting and ending at West Park in Wolverhampton which is a spot I know very well. Great to see the Games spread across different areas of the West Midlands .

Geraint Thomas will probably do the double and crash in both.

It's an Ashes battle in the Women's hockey final after England and Australia both won their semi finals via shoot outs against New Zealand and India respectively.

The medal table top spot looks like going to the wire between the Ashes rivals too.
On Friday England clawed back some of the deficit established earlier by Aussie dominance in the swimming.

Looking like the pesky Aussies are gonna top the medal table now unfortunately
A day of near misses for England have cost them dearly in bowls, hockey and athletics in particular amongst other sports.

Looks like we'll only have the rugby win earlier in the summer to crow about until the next Ashes battle. Boxing should be interesting.
