Today's stage 9 is a 182.4 km mountain course from Saint - Leonard - de Noblat to Puy de Dome.

Cavendish retired because he had broken his collar bone

I'm not a big fan of Cav but it's a very disappointing way to end his career. Undoubtedly the best sprinter in the history of the tour(ever even) He deserved one more stage to break the record at least. Chapeau.

His team has offered him a extension to his contract if he wants it was so close to it the other day just his gearing let him down he obv still got it in his legs

Hope Cavendish continues till at least the next Tdf so he can get the record & then retire to spend time with his wife Peta & their kids

A sucessful break by several riders from the start left Michael Woods to win the stage.
Jonas Vingegaaard lost some time to Tadej Pogacar but still holds the yellow jersey.

I wouldn't blame Cav if he retired after this crash, that must be the second or third time he broke his collarbone, but he would be getting out relatively in one piece. It would be great if he tried one last time next year but one must wonder if he'll say "Enough is enough" .
He's been one of our best cyclists for a long time.
I see Sagan Was disqualified but having seen the incident it's hard to say if Sagan elbowing Cav was 100% intentional or not, but Sagan did probably cut across Cav's line and gave him nowhere to go. I would think in time Cav might say it wasn't Sagan's fault as he & Sagan are on good terms, and Cav probably was going for a gap that was quickly closed off by Sagan, but was it right to disqualify Sagan if no intent or malice was intended?

No racing today as it's a rest day

For the first time in 12-15 years I have not been able to get "into" the TdF this year. Not sure what it is, but think it is a combination of factors. The peloton is lacking characters and the TV coverage is poor. Eurosport's punditry and commentary teams have deteriorated dramatically, some are just crass and puerile. It is just no longer a nice thing to have on in the background for 6 hours a day in the summer. That cringe, acted "bus briefing" segment needs to be dropped and exemplifies all that is wrong with their coverage.
