Starting a babe channel - shinobi86 - 28-04-2009 00:41

Does anyone know how these channels are started and the financial backing needed including license and channel fees. This is just out of interest for a newbie like myself, as i find it interesting how much money must be made out of the succesful channels.

Any information would be appreciated, cheers fellas and ladies

How does one start a babe channel? - Matt63 - 06-08-2009 19:47

Hi guys I am sure someone will know the answer to this. What are the legal steps to starting a babe channel? What sort of equipment do you need and how do you get a channel number on sky? What sort of cost are we talking about here? Look forward to hearing from you.

I did a little bit of research previously, none of it is set in stone but it is a rough idea of costs:

First: you need an Ofcom Licence .. Approx £7k per year paid for 3 years in advance. So £21K

Second: Acquire transponder space for transmission via Sky. Sky also charge for EPG listings.

Sky EPG Slot: £80K per year.
Transponder space: £250K per year.

Playout (ie from source to uplink): around £120K per year.

Third: Studio space: Central London around £25K per year.

Fourth: Playout facilities:
VTR or a video server: A Digibeta or D1 VTR can cost around £40k. Realistically you will need two of them.
Betacam SP VTR £15k plus
Vision switcher and sound desk £10k
MPEG Encoding and uplink equipment £10k.

About £620k for a single channel on Sky.
And that is all before you hire a single Girl, a producer or a camera operator.

Thank for for the very detailed response, however the link doesn't seem to work?

I have a question though, if it costs this amount to set up a channel, who precisely are behind these channels?

And if they have this much money to burn, why don't they get proper managers at the channels to ensure that all the "cock-ups" don't occur?

If one would like to set up a channel, one should wait until one (as opposed to one) is in trouble and bail them out, cash permitting, that way they (not party one but the other party) have done all the hard work, got the licenses and stuff; then one should be able to take the channel on as a going concern. You'd then do well to employ all the ropey old birds no-one else wants (insert names here.....), charge only 75p or so a minute and then count the cash coming in.

I am available for consultancy @ £1.50/min

Don't bother Matt, I'm sure there are easier and cheaper ways to sleep with a glamour model than starting up one of these channels. Wink Look around for the escorting thread for example.

Ha ha! Funnily enough that was not my motivation! Just thinking that most of these shows are pretty rubbish and a bit a decent management would get them far better revenues...
