sherlock holmes trailer - firekind - 19-05-2009 22:03

before you see this just try and imagine how you think holmes would be made into a modern blockbuster. wise cracking? ass kicking? womanizer? this looks like a 19th centuary bond film. hope it flops

RE: sherlock holmes trailer - Bunna - 19-05-2009 22:16

I see what you mean, they could've done this film using different character names & not sullying the good name and character of the great detective, the Holmesian society will be up in arms.

RE: sherlock holmes trailer - vostok 1 - 19-05-2009 22:50

I think the words "Directed by Guy Ritchie" guarantee a flop.

While I have no problem with a director emphasising Holmes' physical skills (Which were often referred to in the stories) or the idea of Watson not being portrayed is a bumbling buffoon for once, (He was supposed to be an MD and a veteran of the Afghan campaign, after all) the clip above makes me feel sad. Holmes and Watson being portrayed as wisecracking, action heroes is about as far from the spirit of the stories as can be. I don't think I'll be waiting with baited breath for this version of the characters.

I remember reading the Sherlock Holmes Compendium, 4 novels & 56 short stories,it was the most enjoyment I have ever had from reading books ( save for a few stories in porn mags lol ). I am surprised the Conan-Doyle family have allowed this.

RE: sherlock holmes trailer - Mister Gummidge - 20-05-2009 01:06

There's no way of preventing it, unfortunately. The characters created by Conan-Doyle are public domain now, as are all of the original stories. There are multiple examples of the charater being used in a manner far away from the authors original vision, including a chinese kung fu film with Holmes fighting off thugs while playing the violin. You or I could go away and write a Sherlock Holmes story if we so desired.

I just hope that the screenwriter isn't inducted into the Baker Street irregulars. That would be an even greater travesty.

As you are in to movie scripts I thought this may be of interest to you Mr G.
