Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - lovebabes56 - 26-02-2020 07:36

As of yesterday four new cases of the virus have tested positive in this country bringing the total to thirteen and China has revealed a drop in cases but many experts say that China has on a daily basis shifted it's position of diagnosis from one path to another thus making it difficult to tell which is the true figure of cases. Italy has several towns on lockdown with movement restrictions and Spain has reported it's first case.

Is the world doing enough to contain thr virus?

On CNN last night the rolling news said that it was "inevitable" that the US would get it yet Trump dismissed it by saying it wasn't that serious-which shows what a total arse he is, however, my worry is that my parents are due to visit Las Vegas for a short holiday next month and my mother is naturally worried about it at nearly 80yrs old (my father is 88) so we are monitoring this every day.

When it comes to health, Trump seems to think his health officials are not giving the right advice, I'd like to see his reaction if he gets it himself!! Bounce BounceTongue

I would say that given the cancellation of the Ireland/Italy Six Nations match and Cheltenham around the corner, and many experts worried about the Olympics in Tokyo going ahead, i think at this point in time, the virus impact on sport at the moment has to be huge. There has to be real doubts cast over the National at Aintree and the Marathon in London in April, if Cheltenham doesn't go ahead, and possibly the League Cup Final this weekend (are the FA monitoring the situation?) and if the world isn't on top of it by May, then surely the FA Cup Final will be called into question and maybe even the Euros & Wimbledon.

The world Indoor Athletics meeting in Nanjing due to take place on March 13 have been postponed until next year, and reports say thst the MMA show in Singapore is now likely to take place behind closed doors. I'm wondering if there is a way to stage to the Olympic events by hosting them in nations where thr disease isn't prevalent, but also the Tokyo Marathon has been reduced to elite runners participation.

Japan have had 150 cases and four death sin Tokyo.

16 cases now confirmed in UK get the feeling that we will be in Italy type virus scenario soon, whole towns and cities on lockdown, (Currently Buxton in Derbys is in lockdown after a school parent is infected) we are now looking at seeing our transport links (rail/bus links) being shut down and sporting chaos ensuing with now possible cancellation of Euros tournament on the cards, and the loss of the London Marathon (might possibly follow Tokyo's race and only allow elite runners) certainly do think this could be a far bigger killer virus than first previously thought and could dwarf the Spanish flu epidemic. Health advice that has already been given, needs to be far more robust than just us washing hands, we need to know where we can make a difference at work and at home.

Stop posting scare stories and follow official advice might be a start!

you do realise it is an airborne virus?

What I meant was that simply washing our hands is one way but feel that it may take more than that to ensure we are not spreading something person to person, and possibly that advice may need to be expanded as more is known about the virus
