I think I remember reading that he was offered both Darth Vader and Chewbacca. Prowse chose Darth Vader and George Lucas said: “Good choice. No one will ever forget Darth Vader.”
And no one ever has.

I can't believe that he was 85.
You always expected him to have the deep booming voice like Darth Vadar, but instead he had a very broad West Country one.

An absolutely lovely Man. I was fortunate enough to meet him when he came to our School as The Green Cross Code Man when i was about 8 or 9. Star Wars was still brand new at the time and he took the time to sign all sorts of Toys, posters etc.
RIP Sir. You were not just one of the greatest movie villains ever, you also taught a generation of kids that roads are not playgrounds.

There was a BBC reporter who years ago got a voicemail message left by him “Hi Katie it’s Darth Vader from Star Wars - can you call me back please”

85 is an amazing age but he made Dath Vader come alive

I think Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones & Anthony Daniels are the surviving main cast members that I can think of.
