Wrestling / MMA - moron50 - 04-11-2008 23:40 I noticed a few guys have mentioned the big 2 U.S wrestling Promotions and / or MMA as being amongst their interests. As you'll see, if you check my blogs (link in my user profile), I've got more than a passing interest myself. Just ordered these, to sort of round-off my collection. Should be good - hopefully. That said, I've got around 80 shows still to watch, so will probably get round to viewing these around 2013. If you havent seen Frank Shamrock's matches with Bas Rutten in Pancrase I highly recommend them for entertainment purposes. Can't say I have, so I'll add that to my list of things still to view - that's if I haven't been suffocated by dvds before then. RE: Wrestling / MMA - Headlessman - 05-11-2008 02:49 I used to be a huge fan of WWF/E but it has gotten a bit rubbish these days so I only watch bits of it sometimes to see whats happening. The best days of WWF was the 'attitude' era from '97 to 2000 when they had guys like Stone Cold and DX.Some of the wrestlers nowadays like John Cena are complete rubbish. I do like TNA though and I watch that regularly. Its much more entertaining than WWE. RE: Wrestling / MMA - moron50 - 05-11-2008 03:15 I stopped watching WWE in 2004. Seen 1 of their PPVs & maybe 3 hours of other stuff since - diabolical. I liked the early NWA/TNA (2002 - 2004), some of the new stuff has been great, some not quite so great. Very predictable at the moment. The Main Event Mafia is looking like a 2008 version of nWo, but that's a pretty stale idea & the way they're heading at present, is the same direction that was partly responsible for killing-off WCW. Their PPVs are too close together as well. Doesn't give enough time to build-up a storyline / feud, but I suppose that's where a lot of the income comes from. I don't bother too much with American / 'TV wrestling' these days. I much prefer the stiffer style in Japan. RE: Wrestling / MMA - moron50 - 05-11-2008 16:55 If anyone’s interested, Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends is due to be re-shown this Sunday evening on ‘Dave’ Sky Ch. 111 (with a later repeat). It’s the one where he gets involved in the Pro Wrestling industry (visiting WCW etc.) For any TNA fans, here’s a video clip of Talia Madison (Velvet Sky) & former WCW & TNA star Daffney (Unger a.k.a Shark Girl) working a small indie show. I’ve long been a fan of Daffney, so this is great. Won’t spoil it, but it’s funny & I don’t recall Daffney using the f-word before. The goofy commentator just adds to it. http://rapidshare.com/files/160924896/Daff-Talia.mpg (14 Mb. – 1:30) RE: Wrestling / MMA - THE INCREDIBLE BULK - 05-11-2008 20:33 Velvet Sky is fucking hot, I'm just sayin...(Let's see who gets that reference ) Anyway, I've been a wrestling fan for almost 19 years now (Yeah, I seriously started watching wrestling when I was 2, no joke) The WWE has been my main source for "Sports Entertainment" in that time period. I have to same I'm getting more into what TNA are producing right now, with the added promo resources of Mick Foley definetly helping the product, the problem I find TNA really have is that they have so much talent, and so much potential yet constantly find new ways to ruin it. You have guys like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Jay Lethal, The Motor City Machine Guns, Christian Cage, and yet despite all this, despite the fact that they had a fantastic division of young guys who can not only work and promo, but in most cases are MAJORLY over, they insist of putting over other people who couldn't draw if their lives depended on it. I dare anyone on here to tell me exactly what Scott Steiner has done, not just in the last 5 years, but realisticly EVER to command a main event spot over any of the people I've just mentioned. I really doubt anyone can, mainly because he doesn't deserve that spo, and until TNA realise that they have made some of their own stars, and don't need to keep relying on WWE's "Rejects" the sooner they can move forward and have a realistic chance of becoming the #1 company. But until they do that, the E are gonna remain on top, because Vince McMahon, despite all the bullshit he can come up with at times, knows how to keep his company on top, plain and simple. And as far as the Cena topic goes, I'll go into that later. But as a Cena mark, a lot of you will probably disagree with what I have to say RE: Wrestling / MMA - mega79 - 05-11-2008 21:14 To me, No Rock = No WWE The Rock was the only reason i watched WWE, that guy made the show. RE: Wrestling / MMA - moron50 - 05-11-2008 21:59 TNA need to get Melissa out from under the Burkha, turn 'face' & feud with Kong. Her & Roxxy are the only 2 that could live with Kong. Don't know how the little midget girl (Taylor whatever) got the strap - it sucks. To really give the Women's Division a boost, they could do worse than getting a couple of Japanese girls over. Business isn't great in Japan at the moment & those girls can work. Not too keen on some of the booking in TNA either. I'd expect better with Jim Cornette being involved. RE: Wrestling / MMA - moron50 - 14-11-2008 05:32 Well, Kurt Angle once again saved a TNA PPV from being a total non-event. Prop's to Abyss as well (the guy gives, like Cactus Jack used to do). WCW had a Japanese legend & genuine wrestling superstar on their roster (The Great Muta) & used him as a mid-carder. Nice to see TNA folllowing that template with Tanahashi. How stupid can you get? An angle based around Joe & Tanahashi would have been a true main event. They never learn. |
