Brian Lara is one of the world's greatest batsman but I rate Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman since Don Bradman. Even Don Bradman commented that the batting styles between himself and Sachin Tendulkar are very similar RE: The Best Sporting Moments You Have Witnessed - mr williams - 27-03-2011 01:15 (25-03-2011 16:52 )lindor Wrote: The 1984 European Championships Semi-final, France v Portugal - possibly the best international match at a major championships. If you like goals, great saves and high drama then you MUST see this To be fair to the Beeb, the lack of coverage in 1984 was mainly down to ITV. The Euro tournament was nowhere near as high profile as it was now and in 1972 and 1976 only the final had been shown live in the UK. With no Home Nation interest, and in those days only 8 teams qualifying, it was agreed that ITV would have the rights to Group A, BBC would have Group B. As ITV had had the final exclusively in 1976 ITV would have a live semi-final and BBC the final. The Beeb were none too impressed when ITV decided they didn't want to take up their options but refused to hand them back, as the Beeb would only have been too happy to cover more games but couldn't as ITV had the rights! ps: ss you say, England didn't qualify (knocked out by Denmark) but Wales agonisingly come within TEN SECONDS of qualifying. Wales had completed their fixtures, and the last game in the group was Yugoslavia v Bulgaria. The group was so close a Yugoslavia win put the Yugos through, a Bulgarian win put the Bulgs through, and a draw put Wales through! Yugo led 1-0, the Bulgs went 1-2 up, Yugo equalised and with both sides going at it like bats out of hell either side could have won but Yugoslavia scored in the 3rd minute of stoppage time for a 3-2 win and put the Welsh out....there wasn't even time to kick-off when the final whistle blew. And it's worth remembering that Northern Ireland beat West Germany both home and away in their qualifying group - the only country ever to do that - but went out on goal difference because they lost 1-0 to Albania when just a point would have put them through. And Euro 84 saw Spain and the Netherlands in the same qualifying group......Spain went into the last game with a goal difference eleven worse than the Dutch.....so they beat Malta 12-1 to snatch first place!! RE: The Best Sporting Moments You Have Witnessed - malicious fan - 27-03-2011 17:03 1 of the greatest olympians of all time. how many olympians have won golds at 5 consecutive olympics in an endurance event, steve redgrave did and i think a german kayaker as well. theres been some fencers and some1 in equestrian who have won golds in so many different olympics but those sports are alot different to rowing. a truly great olympian. Look at the way the ball dips over the wall and swing into the top corner of the goal. Just beautiful. |
