Redknapp will be very tempted because Euro 2012 is just around the corner. The chance grabbing the reins, now the groundwork has been done, and stringing a lucky run together and getting all the way to the final...cor blimey! The Arthur Daley chancer in Harry, who can practically smell the aroma of glory in his nostrils and the good odds of a knighthood that'll follow on from that just won't be able to resist. If Capello had gone earlier and the Euros had been further away, I think he'd stay put with Spuds.

I know you weren't defending him.I think most on this thread are happy to see him go.His stats are impressive, but I'll always remember him for our shocking World Cup campaign.

Capello is a fantastic manager with an amazing record that is second to none in club football. As for England, he was simply let down by the players in South Africa with Rooney for example being in his worst form ever. It's traditional to blame the manager for everything though and make out it's all his fault.

He doesn't seem keen on taking temporary charge, even for a major tournament. From his press conference yesterday he seems to think that taking the England job should be all or nothing.

redknapp has already started picking his team, talking about gerrard being captain, scholes being asked to come out of retirement, so it's very hard at the moment to see him turning the job down.

This was my worry. Scholes is obviously an amazing player and could probably help the team short-term. But Capello had already started integrating younger players into the side and continuing that through the Euros could've been hugely beneficial long-term. But I get the feeling with Harry that he'd rather select players like Lampard, Owen and Ferdinand bladewave

News just in: Guus Hiddink's signed an 18 month deal at Anzhi Makhachkala. That means a name struck off the England contenders list, as Hiddink was in the top 5 for the job with all the bookies.

Stuart Pearce seems keen on the England job, judging from his press conference today. If Redknapp turns the job down they would give it to Pearce wouldn't they (over Roy Hodgson)?
