I do remember that well cos my parents lost the family home due to interest rates going up to over 15% hence another reason cant stand her.

"" when john major told her to""

So it was Major and the other Cabinet forcing her hand, not her.

By 91-92 she was politically termanlly wounded.

No she wasnt forced She said to John major to drop 1% of interest rates and he suggested joining the ERM do you think Iron Lady Maggie thatcher did what major told her to do Course not !

Dude, it was the single currency thing that was her downfall, read HER OWN WORDS!!

Wait, What:

Quote:but she did Sign up to the ERM when john major told her to which led to the 90's recession.

Quote:and he suggested joining the ERM do you think Iron Lady Maggie

So what is it? She was told or he merely suggested it, you've shifted your goal post in one post!

Both suggested and told are the same thing in my book. when u ask for advice and your told / suggested a course of action doesnt mean she had to take it or i would have said forced to accept it which she wasnt

only reason why she joined erm was so she could lower interest rates.

Thats the best thing Gordon Brown ever did on day 1 he made the Bank of England Independent they alone decide what the rate should be

Don't fear the dead - fear the living! eek

In fact, Thatcher's main claim to Euro fame was that Dec '85 meeting where Lawson wanted us to join. Even Tebbit was willing to go along with it. Whitelaw summed up that everyone there thought it was the right time to join (may well have been).

Thatch just did her usual petulant child act and told 'em to stick their unanimous agreement (and Government economic policy) where the sun don't shine.

By the time she did agree in 1990, she had no choice - if she'd sacked any more senior Tories, it might have become obvious that the silly cow hadn't any proper arguments against it.

That's actually quite funny, but you're not the only one to have dyslexia, so do I. You can always tell the dyslexics, they can spell dyslexia.

Did I read right that for the funeral they'll be a gun salute every minute starting from when the coffin leaves Westminster and continuing until it arrives at St Paul's? That's a long journey so London will be noisy with the sound of a large boom every 60 seconds for about an hour and a half (or however long it takes to get there).
