Germany's 1-0 loss to Mexico brings an end to their run of winning their first match in 7 World Cups in a row. It also makes this the 3rd World Cup in a row in which the defending champions have failed to win their first match.

Brazil's 1-1 draw with Switzerland makes it only the 3rd time in the last 19 World Cups that Brazil have failed to win their first match and the 1st time since 1978 when they also drew their opener 1-1 (against Sweden).

The average age of England's squad is 26 (the 3rd youngest squad). Germany is higher, but not by that much. Their average is 27.1 but they have many more international caps than England's squad, 928 to England's 465.

Sweden have beaten South Korea 1-0 today and will play Germany next. Now it's on to the 2 matches in England's group, which is group G. Belgium and Panama are playing first and Dries Mertens has put Belgium ahead with a super strike which could end up being one of the goals of the tournament.

Though that was a soft penalty for Tunisia but well taken. England should have been 3 or 4 up if they took their chances

Dele Ali looks like he has hamstring injury

Apparently BBC commentators are blaming the heat for lacklustre 2nd half performance by England. Southgate should freshen it up

RE: World Cup 2018 - lovebabes56 - 18-06-2018 19:33

we have left ourselves again too much to make up on Belgium on our match day two - if this ends in a draw

we have to win that and beat Belgium to be even sure of going through

At least England have learnt not to have Harry Kane taking the corners!
