RE: World Snooker Championship 2022 - StrongArmMark - 02-05-2022 20:55 What a great performance from Ronnie. For me, easily the best player there has ever been. As Hendry said in commentary, he makes the game an art form. Not sure about the super long hug with Trump at the end though! Awkward!! RE: World Snooker Championship 2022 - Snooks - 02-05-2022 21:22 I believe Ronnie O'Sullivan when he mentioned about the World Championship bringing out the worst in him to be honest. Not in terms of standard of play, far from it. Seventeen days of hard grind in the full public glare of endless coverage and scrutiny is seemingly everything Ronnie loathes the most. I genuinely believe the notion that he does not like the World Championship for those very reasons. He is so obviously a complex character riddled with a lot of insecurities. In the typical mould of a flawed genius. But he turns up and gives it what he can because it is the World Championship in spite of all the worries and uncertainties. For him to emerge as the winner of the biggest tournament there is 7 times is remarkable enough. For him to do so given the nature of the event makes his achievement all the more special. The words shared with him by Judd Trump were clearly heartfelt and Ronnie was emotional in a Eurosport interview soon after the final regarding that post match hug. Many congratulations to Ronnie. For more reasons than perhaps he will ever know the magnitude of what he has achieved will never quite be obvious to him in maybe the same way it is to those of us that follow snooker so passionately as fans. RE: World Snooker Championship 2022 - Regenerated - 02-05-2022 21:30 Terrific win for Ronnie and for me, it's quite fitting to see him and Stephen now share the record number of world titles. Ronnie's achieved virtually every record and title there is to win though and for me that puts him as the greatest. As you said Snooks, it is hard grind in a very public setting. He attracts more attention and media coverage and that brings pressure. The way he continuously regains focus amongst that scrutiny is commendable and the win and the congratulations are very well deserved. RE: World Snooker Championship 2022 - StrongArmMark - 02-05-2022 21:42 Ah, I was only joking about the hug. It reminded me of one of those handshakes (pre Covid!) where one person won't let go! But I appreciate that he was genuinely very emotional, and understandably so. The world championships are a brutal environment and best of 35 is an insanely long slog. I've always loved Ronnie all the more for the fact that he wears his heart on his sleeve and is not a snooker robot. RE: World Snooker Championship 2022 - Geriisgreat - 03-05-2022 16:20 Really enjoyed the final Ronnie was at his very best for most of it and didn't give judd much chance a fair reflection on the score fingers crossed Ronnie can get the magical 8th title next year |
