While sat on the toilet this morning I was suddenly struck by the revelation that in Trent Boult and Devon Conway, NZ have two players who are named after Rolls Royce gas turbines.

Gutted that Ross Taylor's retired, I could have had a hat-trick. Sad

New Zealand 0-1, what a good start.

The Mitchell and Blundell show again.
Sounds like a firm of solicitors laugh.

Henry Nicholls was hugely unfortunate to be dismissed after his lofted drive off Jack Leach ricocheted off the bat of Daryl Mitchell at the non-striker's end and looped to Alex Lees at mid-off.

Law 33.2.2.3 states it will be out if a fielder catches the ball after it has touched the wicket, an umpire, another fielder, a runner or the other batter.

Bit disappointed with the pitch, what happened to the pace it used to have a few years ago,
Turning on the first day of a test is not good if it was at Taunton people would be calling for a points deduction lol,

^^ I take your point, but, generally pitches in our County game lack pace, & I include Test Match pitches. The squares are old & tired, & could do with digging up & starting afresh. That's a costly process, who's going to fork out for that ? It it's not the ECB, then only moneybags Surrey could afford to do it, certainly not Yorkshire.

It was an unusual sight to see spin at Leeds, we tried to get the pitches to spin some years back when we had 3 decent spinners but didn't manage it. The T20 tracks can turn, if they're used pitches.
We've had to cricket at Leeds for days now, just playing T20 away fixtures, so no excuse in terms of preparation, it has been very dry, which would explain the turn but not the lack of pace, at least the nicks carried.
It wasn't exactly ragging like Ciderabad has in the past, from what I saw it was the occasional delivery, & mainly from the bowlers foot marks.
Not sure what type of surfaces your producing at Taunton these days, certainly not good enough for your batsmen to score consistently in the Championship. Don't worry, your getting TKC next year, but I doubt he'll help much in the 4 day game, he has been able produce for Yorkshire, a great white-ball batter, but your not short on that front. Can we have Banton, he seems to have lost his way.
