RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 15-04-2017 09:42 My Darling Clementine(1946) I bought it from Sainsbury's for £10. A classic but fictionalised retelling of the legendary showdown at the O.K Corral fro John Ford.A slow build up is so effective and the grandeur of the visual imagery is almost hypnotic.Overall the film is more about the colonisation of the western frontier than it is the fued between the Earps and the Clantons.Nicely remastered picture only adds to the spectacle. Extras : Commentary Documentary Masterclass Video essay Gallery RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 15-04-2017 10:01 A great recommendation for fans of martial arts and Kazuo Koike. Lone Wolf and Cub boxest(1972-74) I bought this from Granger Games for £20. The set includes ; Sword of Vengeance(1972) Baby Cart at the River STYX(1972) Baby Cart at Hades(1972) Baby Cart in Peril(1972) Baby Carry in the land of the Demons(1973) White Heaven in Hell(1974) There's word of a crappy remake coming up but I would advise people to enjoy Tomisaburô Wakayama as the wronged assassin protecting his infant son who travels in an armoured pram. They don't make them like this anymore. Extras : Making of documentaries Interviews Collectable booklets (All for each film) RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 16-04-2017 09:13 A few recommendations that I picked up from a market in Leeds. A Man For All Seasons(1966) Got this for £8 Fred Zimmermann's film based on an Robert Bolt's adaptation of his own play features amazing performances from Paul Schofield,John Hurt,Leo McKern and Robert Shaw who steals scenes as Henry VIII. Extras : Commentary Interviews Video essay Collectable booklet Also got Two Rode Together(1961) Slightly cheaper at £5(presumably because of the lack of extras) Another classic John Ford western that the director himself shunned in favour of his other works.Great work from James Stewart and Richard Widmark as two men with different points of view on a mission to rescue white prisoners from the Comanches. Extras : Video essay Collectable booklet RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 23-04-2017 09:31 I highly recommend Solaris(1972) I bought it from a markey in Leeds for a great price of just £6. Andrei Tarkovsky's film pits a psychologist against a telepathic alien planet that replicates people's loved ones from their memories.A massively influential film on the sc-fi genre. Extras : Audio commentary Documentary Interviews Deleted scenes Extended scenes Audio essay Collectable booklet RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - lancealot790 - 26-04-2017 11:07 Treated myself to the steelbook edition of Commando Directors cut, Kal-El has already posted full review of this so i won't go into detail but just agree that it is well worth picking up. Really glad you like it, great looking steel book. RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - *Kal-El* - 03-05-2017 06:38 Done a review of this ages ago thought I would bring this up again as the other day I watched the Batman Forever and have a steel book of that. I have all the Batman films as steel books even some doubles with different designs. At the time I bought Batman and Robin as a steel book because it was dirt cheap and wanted to complete the collection. As you can see it's still in the wrapper and it's staying that way lol. RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 11-05-2017 10:00 I highly recommend The Adventures of Robin Hood(1938) £10 from Sainsbury's. Far superior to Costner's and Ridley Scott's efforts,Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone shine in their respective roles. The amazing sword play looks stunning on blu ray HD Extras : Commentary Documentaries Newsreel Outtakes Short films RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 21-05-2017 10:23 Bought a couple of good bargains from a market in Leeds. First for £10,The House Collection(1986-2002) A cheap horror film that spawned three sequels and feature some pretty good, live action effects.Completely nuts but ultimately charming and enjoyable in the same way the Evil Dead trilogy was. Extras : Audio commentaries for each film Documentaries Featurettes Interviews. Collectable books Also picked up Hell Drivers(1957) for £6. A British B-movie from blacklisted american director Cy Enfield. A great cast led by Stanley Baker as an ex-con who ends up working for a corrupt haulage firm. With superb work from Herbert Lom,Peggy Cummins and Patrick Mcagoohan. Extras : Audio commentary Making of Documentary Interviews RE: Blu Ray Recommendations - rpj316 - 28-05-2017 13:10 Highly recommend the new Phantasm box set.I bought it from Granger Games for £25. The films(1979-2016) includes last year's Ravager(directed by David Hartman). Although each sequel declines in quality the spirit of the original still shines through to make them enjoyable and watchable. The first one though is still the standout and looks amazing with a 4k restoration by Bad Robot. Extras : Audio commentary (each film) Behind the scenes optional commentary Archive intro by actor Angus Scrimm Reflections of fear featurette(for each film) Deleted scenes(each film) Q & A(2016) 2016 Ravager Premiere Trailers Tv spots Radio spots Bonus disc : Phantasmagoria documentary Gory days featurette Dear Angus : Angus Scrimm tribute Phantasm Genesis featurette Phandom featurette |
