RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 02-05-2015 17:33 Congratulations to Celtic, Hearts, Morton & Albion Rovers, the 4 league winners RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 02-05-2015 19:49 Yes just to echoe the same sentiments congratulations to all the League winners throughout the divisions I can't believe Celtic needed us to them a favour Anyway I'm delighted that we managed to get all 3 points this afternoon against Aberdeen. The Championship Play Off's are going to make for great telly. I think Motherwell are destined for the drop, to me it's just a question of whether its Hibs or Rangers that joins Hearts in the Premiership next season, no disrespect to the other teams involved but it's the only outcome as I see it. RE: Scottish Football - SmĀ© - 02-05-2015 20:40 ^^ Celtic didn't need a favour from United to win the league, just got us past the post a week early Always love it when my team win the league on my birthday RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 08-05-2015 15:10 Alan Johnston has been named the new Dunfermline Athletic manager RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 08-05-2015 22:42 A much needed victory from Motherwell tonight brings them just 3 points behind Ross County and Kilmarnock and in the process officially relegates St Mirren. What an exciting end to the season we've got on our hands now. With the battle in the top 6 for Euro places and the battle in the bottom 6 to avoid being the team that ends up in that dreaded Play Off position and some people say our league is dead and boring. Think again RE: Scottish Football - FormallyInfernal - 09-05-2015 00:05 (08-05-2015 22:42 )Scottishbloke Wrote: A much needed victory from Motherwell tonight brings them just 3 points behind Ross County and Kilmarnock and in the process officially relegates St Mirren. What an exciting end to the season we've got on our hands now. We've a long and honourable tradition of finishing last or second bottom in the years that rules on promotion and relegation are changed and when other teams are deemed not worthy to play Rangers and Celtic on a regular basis (stadium criteria, my arse but sorry nonetheless, Falkirk!). As this is not such a year, a great escape is in order... Although if we do end up playing off against Rangers, expect that to be the week that Mike Ashley is arrested for doing something that he didn't oughta! RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 09-05-2015 00:17 In all my years on this forum I never knew you were a Motherwell supporter. Yes the year was 2003 when Motherwell actually finished rock bottom of the SPL but Falkirk were denied because they didn't have an all seater stadium. They requested to groundshare with another SPL which got rejected. Gretna then win the League in 2007 with the same scenario yet the SFA allows them entrance to the SPL. Double standards Well I said at the start of the season whoever finishes in that second bottom spot would be relegated as I favour either Hibs or Rangers to do the business. I also don't think it's right that the Premiership team only has to play 2 games whilst Rangers have got a potential 6 games and Hibs 4 respectively. These rules should be changed, finishing second and Third should be rewarded and whoever finishes in that second bottom spot in the Premiership should be entered at the first stage of games in my honest opinion. RE: Scottish Football - FormallyInfernal - 09-05-2015 01:02 The unfairness of the model is why the English clubs don't bother with it anymore - if you're down, you're down. Once you get into the top division up here, it seems you vote for anything that could keep you in it after a bad season There is no hard and fast rule as to which definition of devotion is the greatest. I know people who would describe themselves variously as fan, supporter or follower and who'd regard the others as lightweights! I'm not a card-carrier; my only match was what I remember to be a pretty ghastly 0-0 draw at Morton in the old Premier Division, although the stats tell me that it apparently ended 1-1. Even the goals must have been dreary! But Motherwell is my team (I'm also Spurs, through my mum) although I'm Renfrewshire born and bred - mainly because of the colours and Willie Pettigrew back in the day I apologise if any of this seems unbelievable, but I promise you - there did used to be top-flight football at Cappielow! RE: Scottish Football - Phonebook - 09-05-2015 14:46 Goal for Stranraer. And that my friends, is a Phonebook fact. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 09-05-2015 18:39 Hamilton 1 Partick 1 - back to not-winning ways Thanks to FormInf for not having a go at me from a Motherwell perspective. I remember Morton in the top flight because they always seemed to swap with us! Mind, those were the days when it was them or Dunfermline doing it, sometimes both at once :ouch I think the play-offs system in Scotland really just needs to be 2nd vs 3rd and have done with it. This crap of "oh we're 9th so we play the 4th place team" is nonsensical. I didn't realise Montrose were having to have a play-off to stay in the league! I'm even more bloody relieved that East Stirling avoided that. I looked at the Highland League table the other week. They don't half score a lot, do they? The Lowland League seem comparable to the "proper" leagues, but the HL teams must bang in half a dozen goals every time. |
