I wonder now that the boot is on the other foot that they would still vote the same way if given another opportunity. The Play Off system works well in the English Leagues but we've got it all wrong. What I'd like to see is a Top Division in Scotland consisting of 14 teams with the bottom 3 being automatically relegated. In the Championship I would then have the Top 2 automatically promoted with either 3rd, against 4th to determine that final promotion spot or 3rd Top in the Championship against 3rd bottom in the Premiership. This would end self preservation and reward the teams for their hard work throughout the season. I want to see the entire set up being reconstructed and end this current unfair advantage which Motherwell have obviously got. Both Rangers and Hibernian run the risk of picking up injuries and possible bookings which could have a detrimental effect as to there promotion chances, it hardly seems fair to me. RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 18-05-2015 19:57 the SPL clubs moaned that they had to play 38 games while the Championship only play 36 games was their justication for the system adopted RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 19-05-2015 06:40 The SPL has more clubs. More clubs = more matches. Go back to 10 at the top and end the silly end-of-season split. Or rethink the whole lot (I would say that, I'm all for more of the Highland guys coming if they want - and Brora clearly did). If they stayed with the English way of doing things I don't think there would have been many complaints from fans. I think we tried that bottom 3 teams against top 3 in the second division once or twice but I don't think it worked very well. does this mean that clubs in the Highland League want to have an automatic promotion into the Scottish League system or not? By that I mean would the Highland League becomes like the Scottish version of the Conference in England? RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 19-05-2015 12:53 The financial backer of Brora said in an interview that he felt the Highland League clubs that were capable of winning title(About 4 of 18) had been bullied into accepting this new pyramid system as the clubs in both Highland and Lowland Leagues that know that they have no realistic change of winning title had no consequences to voting to back this system. He argued that teams like his are big fish in small pond and if they were to be "promoted" they would be small fish in big pond and would be worse off financially because of it RE: Scottish Football - lovebabes56 - 19-05-2015 18:33 ^ So would it be better to go back to the old system? And how many clubs objected to the recostruction before it was implemented? RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 19-05-2015 19:01 The old system had it's flaws don't get me wrong as a Top 10 League strangled a lot of clubs such as giving youth a try as the nature of it all was very much cut throat so the fear aspect of relegation was hanging over every club outwith the Old Firm at the start of each campaign but it was also a fairer system. At the end of Season 1994/95 my Dundee United team finished rock bottom and were relegated automatically on 36 points. Aberdeen finished 2nd Bottom on 41 points and played Dunfermline over 2 legs which would either determine promotion for the Pars, relegation for the Dons or safety for the Dons. Aberdeen won both legs 3-1 to remain in the Premier Division. All clubs voted unanimously for a Top 10 thinking it would make for a more exciting league, it didn't. The following year after we were pipped to the post by the Pars we managed come through the Play Off's after defeating Partick Thistle over 2 Legs but we have still flirted with relegation numerous times since and have been close a number of times of going down again. A Top 14 or 16 would give clubs so much more breathing space, it would mean we could give more youngsters a run out in the first team without being under as much pressure, it would also benefit the national team too in long run. I don't like the current system one bit and I would welcome change and I think a lot of supporters of the other clubs would echoe the same sentiments as myself. RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 19-05-2015 20:27 seems Dunfermline are considering selling naming rights for their ground as another source of income. If it was restructured how would it look in your opinion mate? RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 20-05-2015 06:48 14 appeals to me as a number (3 x 14 = 42, sorted), but then you have, what just 26 matches? I know it used to be 39, IDK how they decided the "3rd go-round" fixtures as H&A (random, I expect). |
