Can't wait for Carwin to walk through this guy.

Would love to see Carwin do it as well dont know though, thought cro cop really hurt dos santos in their fight so thats encouragin you got to think carwin hits harder than cro cop

Can't think of anyone who could match Shane Carwin for power mate.Dos Santos has plenty of power and is a top striker aswell but not in Carwin's league when it comes to pure power in the punch.

Hopefully see that tonight.

UFC 131

I'm gonna be honest, I've only heard of or seen half of the fighters on the main cardShy

Donald Cerrone v Vagner Rocha
I vaguely remember Cerrone from his fight with Paul Kelly, he's from the Greg Jackson camp so is no doubt a good fighter but with 12 of his 14 wins coming by submission... Well, Rocha is a newcomer to MMA making his debut in 2009 & this is his UFC debut a BBJ black belt 6-1 with 4 subs. - Cerrone Decision
Jon Olav Einemo v Dave Herman
Norwegian BBJ black belt Olav Einemo has been around MMA for over 10 years but has only had 7 fights 6-1, 5 subs, he's mostly fought in BBJ tournaments getting to atleast the Quarter Finals & apparently is the only man to beat Roger Gracie in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournament & has also beat Rolles Gracie. His only MMA loss was in his only appearance in a worldwide known organization at Pride 31 a decision loss to Fabricio Werdum he makes his UFC debut at 35 years old.
Herman has a very impressive record of 20-2 with 14 KO's but is making his first appearance of note in a major promotion, 18 of his 20 wins have come in the first round with his first 11 fights & wins coming this way, his only 2 losses are by KO R2 & DQ illegal knees R2, at 26 he's got a good few years ahead of him but his record says he's either the next big thing or just a stand up fighter & that is dangerous against a world class BBJ fighter although how many times Olav Einemo has fought this kind of opponent could be the difference with regards to his takedowns if he can get close. This on paper having never seen either fighter looks like a 1 round fight but a pretty intriguing one. - Olav Einemo Submission
Demian Maia v Mark Muñoz
Interesting fight this pitting 10 v 12 in the mythical MMA rankings. 3rd degree BBJ black belt Maia against wrestler & BBJ purple belt Muñoz, I say interesting as Maia is clearly a world class BBJ fighter but since that fight with Anderson Sliva, Maia 14-2, 8 Subs 2 KO's has been working on his standup & looked good in his last fight against Kendall Grove & Muñoz 10-2, 5 KO's 1 Sub has more KO wins than subs which is quite strange for a wrestler, so a fight that looked like being a 3 round ground chess match may turn out to be a toe to toe standup fightbladewave - Maia Submission
Kenny Florian v Diego Nunes
After losing TUF final to Diego Sanchez at Middleweight then making his UFC debut at Welterweight & 2 fights later spending the rest of his career at Lightweight & after losing a title eliminator to Gray Maynard Ken-Flo is now making his Featherweight Debut & possibly being the only fighter in UFC if not MMA history to fight in 4 weight divisions. Nunes is fighting for the second time in the UFC after 5 fights in WEC all going to decision 4-1. both fighters are BBJ fighters although Florian is the far superior as a 2nd degree black belt to Nunes's purple belt & both have good standup with Muay Thai, boxing & kick boxing, Nunes is 16-1 with an even finish record & was on a 13 fight win streak untill he had his first loss but since entering the WEC all 6 of his fights have gone to a decision, Kenny is 14-5, 3 Subs & has only lost 4 of his UFC fights, TUF final & 2 title fights to Sean Sherk & BJ Penn along with the eliminator to Gray Maynard & Dana White has said if he wins this fight then he'll most likely get a title shot against Jose Aldo. - Florian Submission
Junior dos Santos v Shane Carwin
Many things could happen in this fight, the most obvious being they'll stand & try & remove each others head but there's too much on the line for them to take that risk. Carwin hasn't fought since getting beat by Lesnar just over a year ago & is coming back from major surgery aswell as changing his fitness & training. dos Santos is fighting for the first time in 10 months so there's a possibility for both fighters to suffer octagon rust although unlike Carwin dos Santos hasn't had any problems & most of this time was taken up by TUF.
Both fighters have massive standup skills & power with 15 KO's between them dos Santos 8, Carwin 7 & 8 Subs dos Santos 3, Carwin 5 & both are 12-1, so what will it take to separate them???
Should the fight go to the ground, more than likely initiated by dos Santos to take some of the questionable cardio away from Carwin then paper says Carwin's wrestling should see him dominate but as most wrestlers in the UFC are seen as the best of the best Carwin is only a NCAA Division II runner up & once chamipion, not bad but his 5 sub wins have all come in local shows against no doubt smaller fighters so maybe he could switch to his purple belt BBJ, as you well know having heard from Joe Rogan a purple belt BBJ is pretty much a black in normal jiu jitsu but Junior dos Santos is a brown belt BBJ one level higher than purple: Aside from the exceptional belts awarded at the highest levels, brown belt is the highest "color" belt rank within the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, providing a transition between the intermediate purple belt rank and the elite black belt. Brown belt is arguably the beginning of the elite ranks in and of itself, typically taking at least 5 years of dedicated training to achieve. As a transitional rank, it is often thought of as a time for refining rather than accumulation, where a practitioner hones already acquired technical and practical skills until they reach a black belt level. add to this the fact dos Santos trains at the Black House gym along with Anderson Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Lyoto Machida, Antônio Rogério Nogueira, Paulo Thiago, José Aldo, Mark Muñoz, Diego Nunes, Ronaldo Souza Strikeforce Middleweight champion all in all the gym has had 7 champions in 3 different MMA organizations 3 of which are current champions & god only knows how many black belts not to mention all the hours spent grappling on the ground, so just as Shane Carwin doesn't use his wrestling skills, Junior dos Santos dosen't use his BBJ skills the reason being up untill now they haven't needed to but like I said this fight is far too important to just go all out on the feet somebody somewhere has been putting a grandmaster plan together & given dos Santos was supposed to fight the might, power & supreme wrestling skills of Brock Lesnar you have to say that all the talk sways in the direction of the Brazilian but all that is just on paper & on Sunday morning the only thing that dos Santos & Carwin will be fighting on is the canvas of the octagon floor.
I think the key to this fight may lay in who gets the first takedown as that's the way I see this fight going with the dos Santos camp wanting to test the cardio of Carwin in his first competitive action in a year & with all the training partners at his disposal I can't see dos Santos letting Carwin leave a leg or an arm hanging without taking advantage of it, but like I said the only place all the talking stops is in the octagon.
This fight is probably the hardest to call since I've been doing the predictions as it's easy to say they will just stand & bang but I think we might see a change in strategy from atleast one of them & given he was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar I think that change will come from Junior dos Santos (Although I'm still not sure myself as I'm writing) I can see the fight going to the floor if not in the first then in the second after dos Santos's corner saying he's tired take him down at which point dos Santos may get a TKO groundnpound win??? - dos Santos TKO

At first look this card didn't look great but after writing this it may turn out to be quite decent although I'm sure I've said this before & been left disappointed.

UFC131 Predictions

Main card

Donald Cerrone vs. Vagner Rocha : Two good submission artists here. Can only see the win coming from a sub.Gonna go for the guy with most fight experience.Which is the Cowboy. Cerrone - Sub Round2

Demian Maia vs. Mark Muñoz : Really even fight here. Both solid fighters.I think Munoz has the power in the fight so gonna go for him to win by KO - Munoz - KO Round 2

Jon Olav Einemo vs. Dave Herman : Never seen Einemo fight so no clues about the lad?I know there's a lot of excitement about Dave Herman being the real deal as a UFC Heavyweight.A KO specialist who's only gone the distance once in 22 fights. So i'll take him to win on his UFC debut. Herman - KO Round 1

Kenny Florian vs. Diego Nunes : Looking forward to seeing K Flo again in the cage. Not sure about his drop to 145lbs though...I actually like Nunes in this fight and think he'll prove a real tricky customer for Florian with his crazy fight style.Really hard to call but i'll stick it on a Nunes decision. Nunes - Decision.

Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin : Been looking forward to Carwin's return for ages. One of my favourite fighters and a top lad.Really hope he wins tonight and confident he will. His awesome power will see him walk through JDS for me.Dos Santos is a fantastic fighter a real test for anyone but Carwin will be too much for him,he won't have felt anything like the power thrown at him 2night.I think Shane will stun him with a huge shot and pound him out on the deck.If your a fan of power punching then check this fight out - Carwin KO (Punches) Round 1

RE: UFC - Ro1982 - 12-06-2011 03:40

Nightmare shane was battered thats the nogueiras trainin with the cuban boxin team payin off. Great fight in store vs cain velasquez

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 12-06-2011 12:00

Nightmare indeed mate.Hard to watch if your a Carwin fan.His face was fuckin horrible after the first round.Gotta say i totally underestimated Dos Santos.Didn't think he had that in him,to do what he did to Carwin....but there you go.He was brilliant and too fast and sharp for Carwin who looked really nervous before the fight and rusty during it to me.How he got through Round 1 is unreal, some heart.

After a performance like that i can't see anyone beating Dos Santos for a while including Cain Velasquez.

RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 12-06-2011 12:24

I fancy Cain Velasquez beating Junior dos Santos, just a hunch.

Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin was a good main event. Credit must go to Carwin for carrying on with his face like it was.

No talk about Sam Stout's KO on Yves Edwards? One of the best KO's this year, if not the best. Here it is:

Nasty.

looks like i called it lol...

i thought it would be a tentative fight and it pretty much was. a few flurries here and there but they were pretty much just circling each other the whole way through not really wanting to get into it the way carwin and lesner did.

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 12-06-2011 14:30

Yeah good call Hex!t.When u said u thought it could go to a decision i thought no chance.Nice one mate.

Stout's ko was sweet TDK.Not for Edwards though lol I feared for him the way he was lying unconcious with his eyes open and his legs shaking...Thought it was a quality show last night even the pre lims were good. The Beltran/Rosa fight was awesome so was Einemo/Herman lol Enjoyed Maia/Munoz and Florian/Nunes aswell.Florian looks good down at 145.He'll give Aldo a real fight for me.

Hated every minute of the Main event Rolleyes This isn't the way you wanna see one of your fave fighters leave the octagon.Hopefully he'll pick himself up and win his next fight.

At first look this card didn't look great but after writing this it may turn out to be quite decent although I'm sure I've said this before & been left disappointed.

Donald Cerrone v Vagner Rocha
I thought this fight would be a ground fight given it was wrestling v BBJ but it was a smart move by Cerrone to use his superior standup although he should'vt tried to finish the fight in the last 2 rounds but never looked like he wanted to.
Jon Olav Einemo v Dave Herman
Jon Olav Einemo looked like a beast against the rookie KO artist for most of the fight but fighting in only his eighth MMA fight in 11 years & his first in 5 years showed with his inability to close down his opponent & his lack of defence in the clinch not to mention his fitness & a big chance to get a win on his UFC debut was massively wasted. Herman came into this fight with 21 wins from 22 & 14 KO's but otherthan some good knees in the clinch didn't really look like he was gonna win the fight but when you've got a big punch it only takes one shot to change things & with Olav Einemo having no defence this outcome was always a possibility.
Demian Maia v Mark Muñoz
No I'm not gonna say Muñoz didn't win the fight as he probably shaded it with the punches to the thigh of Maia when Maia was on top but doing his aggression in his mind with regards to his next BBJ move, something the judges can't see whereas Muñoz was visibly being aggressive with the thigh shots therefore winning points but for one judge to give all 3 rounds to Mark Muñoz was once again a fucking disgrace, when is this shit gonna stop!!!

I thought this was one of the best fights in the UFC for quite a while with the much improved Demian Maia once again showing his improved striking, it looks like the Anderson Silva fight has opened his eyes to needing an alround game & in the first round he no doubt surprised Muñoz by coming forward & pushing the fight & clearly won the first round 10-9. The next two were pretty close but Muñoz probably shaded them.
Demian Maia dispite the loss looked good & I can't waite to see him fight again if this is the style he's gonna bring from now on as I used to think he was all BBJ & nothing else so I think his next two opponents will be interesting as I can see him being given a chance to get another run for the title & depending on who Mark Muñoz next fight is against & if he wins then I can see him getting a shot & if Silva is still champ Muñoz may be his toughest test as unlike Chael Sonnen Muñoz is probably the best wrestler in the UFC but can also stand with anyone & KO them.
Kenny Florian v Diego Nunes
I'd love to say the first round was the best I've ever seen but I missed all but the last 25'ish seconds of it & the only action I saw was a sweet right hand from Diego Nunes, but the second & third was pretty much as I thought it was gonna go with the far more experienced Kenny Florian pushing the pace & grabing a few takedowns & throwing some of his trademark elbows although from what I saw of Nunes he lookes like a decent fighter. If Ken-Flo does go on to face Jose Aldo when the champ return's from injury in October/Spetember then that will be some fight although I did notice that Florian was pacing himself a little & against Aldo & all the smaler fighters this may leave him open to being pressured by his opponents as the smaller fighters like to fight at a faster pace then all the other UFC weight classes.
Hats off to Kenny Florian for being the first ever fighter to fight in 4 different weight divisions that is some going, whats he gonna de next fight Brock Lesnar in an open weight class.
Junior dos Santos v Shane Carwin
Now talking of judges lets put the focus on the ref for a second, Herb Dean is im my oppinion the best ref in the UFC alongside 'Big' John McCarthy but to not stop this fight in the first round when Carwin was clearly not defending himself was a far worse decision than the judge giving Mark Muñoz all 3 rounds if Carwin was putting up even a small amout of defence then I doubt he would've taken this kind of damage as when dos Santos was looking at Dean he wasn't throwing big shots more just keeping the pressure on to let the ref jump in but Herd Dean just stood there & told Carwin to defend himself which he wasn't able to do therefore the fight should've been stopped!!!
For all those especially the architect of this thread who for some blinding reason thought Shane Carwin was gonna KO Junior dos Santos in 1 round, seriously did you not learn anything from the Brock Lesnar fight, Shane Carwin isn't an athlete or a mixed martial arts fighter, he's just a one time wrestler who has a big punch & everytime he comes up against a fighter with a professional attitude to training & the sport then he's always gonna be second best if best is the right word.
Look at Demian Maia & Junior dos Santos 2 fighter who even with an established career are still looking at ways to improve themselves & evolve as a fighter whereas Carwin is only concerned in looking for the big shot.

I thought one fighter out of respect for the others punching power might take this fight to the ground especially dos Santos given the energy Carwin would need to fight on the ground but they both stuck to what they know best & stayed on their feet & this is strangly where Carwin got found out, he had on movment in both his feet & head to block or sidestep the jab of dos Santos & pretty much everytime he threw it landed. It was a smart fight from dos Santos although he was never gonna get a standing KO as to stop the uppercut & haymaker from Carwin he was always standing off & reaching in with the jab making it harder for him to generate power for a KO punch & the more he did this the more comfortable he became to the point of not even putting up a guard & in the last round when Herb Dean brought in the doctor probably realising he should've stopped the fight in the first gave Carwin the realisation that he needed the KO so would have to go for it dos Santos showed a smart & cool head in taking Carwin down knowing he would be swinging to take his head off so counted it by taking him down to run down the last 30seconds & win the fight comfortably.

Cain Velasquez v Junior dos Santos is pre scheduled for UFC 136 8th October in Houston, Texas, this sould be a great fight with another chance for dos Santos to show his new wrestling skills which he's gonna need if he's to beat Velasquez.

Your right there TDK2008, Sam Stout's KO was fuckin horrendous Yves Edwards looked like Jesus after being nailed to the cross infact you could say it was Stout of orderBig Laugh.... Seriously don't encourage me.

Fighters were awarded $70,000 bonuses.
Fight of the Night: Dave Herman vs. Jon Olav Einemo bladewave Demian Maia v Mark Muñoz
Knockout of the Night: Sam Stout No shit!!!
Submission of the Night: Chris Weidman

Probably the best show of the year for me so far... I think.

I'd have called it right aswell Hex!t if Herb Fuckin Dean had done his job right!!!.... Not that I take my predictions serious.
