Cook is still the best option.

The only advantage of him not being the captain is that he could then give all his focus on being the no1 opener in the world again

Hasn't Bairstow been Yorkshire Captain?

I don't think he has. He may have captained the odd one day game, but he's not done it on a consistent basis. His Dad David was captain of Yorkshire in the mid 80s.

At present there's not many options to Cook.
And it's not wise to give the captancy to a wicket keeper.

Joe Root would be the main candidate. Buttler and Broad have captained the one day teams and Ben Stokes is one for the future.

I'm wondering if teams should adopt the Ryder Cup system and have a non playing captain!! Tongue
Cook's tactical nous can be brilliant at the best of times but I have to say that really it should be between root Buttler and Broad

350/7 in the end.
Very decent score indeed.

But beware the India batting line up.
I always get the feeling no matter what score they have to chase it is not beyond them. Come on England.
