England won the first hour of the day, but the 96 run partnership between Kohli & Ashwin destroyed any slim hope England had of chasing down a target. Again Root wasted an opportunity to wrap things up sooner, by bringing Stone into the attack straight after Tea, when he bowled Broad. I hope he didn't have the 2nd new ball in mind which was 6 overs away. It was as if he didn't want to take a wicket in order to be required to bat for less overs.

England should consider dropping either or both Sibley and Burns and definitely Moeen and Broad. I know rest was needed but tired Anderson and Bess could surely have done better.

You're wrong, every test pitch is assessed by the ICC and a finding issued. It's routine. If necessary, a venue can be suspended from hosting international matches.

Incidentally, it seems odd that an English county gets fined for producing a pitch such as this one, when England have to play test matches on these kind of surfaces.

^^

In theory that is the case, in practice, India pretty much hold the purse strings for the ICC & they control it, not the other way round as it should be.

Remember India were one of the last major Test playing nations to to use the decision review system, they opted out, because it suited them, instead of being told to operate the system by the sports governing body.

India v England 2nd Test Chennai Day 4
India 329 & 286
England 134 & 164 (54.2 overs) Ali 43 Root 33 Lawrence 26 Burns 25 Axar 5-60 Ashwin 3-53 Kuldeep 2-25
India beat England by 317

England tried to be more positive in the 2nd innings, but the end result was similar. Without Moeen Ali teeing off in a 10th wicket partnership of 38 with Broad which was the highest of the innings, they would've fallen short of their own 1st innings effort. The innings amounted to less than 2 sessions, with almost 5 sessions of the match remaining.

Hopefully the day/night Test will spin less than this wicket, allowing for a closer contest.

India had conditions in their favour playing at home?? nobody thought that that would be the case did they??Huh Vaughan (and others - all of whom should know better ((except Vaughan himself perhaps as he likes the sound of his own voice, or to salivate when reading over his own twitter comments) - it seems - not foe the first time, that twitter was named precisely in anticipation of such ego driven users. Fact is England didn't apply themselves to the task, and once again found themselves like fish out of water against spin. On that note, I agree with those that have highlighted the stupidity of penalising counties for producing such pitches, when England players will have to learn how to survive and compile on such tracks in the sub continent. I don't however advocate that everything that is done in the county game, shoiuld be solely for the benefit of England - I never have!!

Is Vaughan etc really saying that such pitches are unfair to dear old England?? If so, I take it he will advocate that pitches at home no longer favour Broad Anderson or their successors by taking seam etc?? to even out the opposition chances.

No complaints after the first test I note!!

^I would agree no complaints after the first Test but we've had crushing defeats before and bounced back, right?
