If England cant beat Scotland we dont stand a chance to win the Euros. Same old story again. I actually hope Scotland make the last 16 now. England to be quarter finalists at best

I thought it was a great performance by Scotland and Billy Gilmour rightly named the man of the match. To be fair though, the best 4 chances all fell to England and the expected goals stat of 1.91 to 0.79 tells us that England should really have won (though we should have won against the Czech Republic). On we go, it's now effectively a knock out game against Croatia.

What do you prefer seeing? An England playing the sort of game every time like last night and win only 1 - 0 or end up struggling to draw a game? Or an England teams that's adventurous, plays attacking football really have a go at the opposition and win games by 3 or 4 nil?

If we are supposed to have one of the best domestic leagues in the world that's attracted some of the best players in the world why are we so completely damn indifferent at international level? why aren't these guys showing the sort of passion, for wearing the England shirt?

I'll tell you why. These guys earn more than what you & I will earn in a bloody lifetime of working our butts off and think they are the best in the world. At best these guys cut at league level but on the world stage they sometimes freeze and don'r have a clue what to do - all they are concerned about is the money they are earning at their clubs and that next big money move & representing their country often comes a very poor second. Would any of Southgate's player made it into the Italia 90 squad or the squad of 66? Maybe one or two mght have done, we'll never know. The Scots probably played way better than we expected them to, but let's be honest & bullish here.

Southgate needs to let the players express themselves a little more freely on the pitch. Forget about all the passing back once you have the just move the ball forward have go and see what come from it. Tactically he should played Rashford & Grealish from the start instead of probably Sterling and maybe Mount and
I think the game would have had a far pacier look to it.
England simply ran out of ideas at times, and where was the passion, the desire to win?

I still stand by what I said we still need to have a real go at the Czechs on Tuesday regardless of where we are results - wise and put a in a real 100% quality performance that befits our status as one of the tournaments favourites, which we are not doing.

England: 6/10 Scotland 6.5/10

RANT OVER

I gave Southgate credit for keeping the team calm and controlled in the Croatia match. He may have over-corrected — he appears to have calmed them to sleep.

I didn’t think they were as awful as everyone is saying — they just seemed really lethargic, with no creativity or ideas.

Clean sheet and they’ll qualify out of the group. They’re clearly not expending energy unnecessarily. So I’m still quietly hopeful that they’ll rediscover a spark in the knock-out stages, especially if he starts using some of the talent that’s on the bench.

And credit to Gilmour and Tierney. They were excellent.

I think lovebabes56 is just a product of the English medias typical hype train when every major tournment comes round.
England are always made favourite by British and Irish betting companies, the bookies always win.

These overpaid prima donnas just think they can turn up and pub stomp every team below them in the rankings, life doesn't work that way. Do you really expect players on 6 figure weekly salaries to give 100% for their countries for a 2 grand appearance fee? No, they dont't want to get injured and lose their first team club position.

I don't think England deserve all the criticism they are getting, they still played good attacking football, but Scotland managed to contain them.
Don't worry, England will still go far in the competition, maybe not as far as some of you think they should though...

England players haven't received an appearance fee for playing matches for England since 2007.

They do receive bonuses though. If they were to win the Euros it would be worth £250,000 each.

England paid their players £2,000 per appearance for the FIFA World Cup of 2018.
In addition to that, the players were promised £217,000 each more if they won the men’s World Cup 2018.

England will never win anything with Southgate as manager he's so defensive, never wants to attack , it showed in him taking off our one good player from the first half and going like or like with Jake coming on , he needs to drop rice and have a much more attacking midfield,
It will never happen though as I remember watching his Middlesbrough team against city they always came for a point never once did they come and try to win a game , and we where not that great

As far as I know that appearance money gets donated to a charity of the players choose and been like that for quite a few years
