I haven't been aware in my lifetime of anything other than one of those RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government - HannahsPet - 20-09-2024 09:11 so bank of england have disclosed that the latest round of govt bonds made 10 Billion and was 8 times over subscribed means rachel reeves has a lot more wiggle room and also more pressure on her because WFP payment is only 1.4 billion and the 2 child cap is only 2.5 billion the fact these were over subscribed means govt could do 2 - 3 or more of these RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government - skully - 20-09-2024 11:33 Ah yes, but it's not about doing the right thing is it, it never is in our politics. I expect they will still cut where they shouldn't, it'll be more pain for the old, sick and disabled, because they want to reduce welfare spending before they've even attempted to fix the reasons why so many are in need of it. The fact that so many people need to use foodbanks, while in reciept of benefits, some also working, shows cuts are not the way to fix things, that just punishes people who have nothing, reforms not cuts, the winter fuel payment is a quick way to save, but at what cost. All politicians are cunts, but I had hoped this bunch of cunts wasn't going to be as bad as the last bunch of cunts, so far they have not proved any different. RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government - HannahsPet - 20-09-2024 11:45 i think these were 30 year bonds/ Gilts think the interest was 4.39% down from 4.6% last time it shows there are lot of investors willing to invest long term here though and surely thats a good thing RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government - dundeered - 20-09-2024 12:17 (20-09-2024 11:45 )HannahsPet Wrote: i think these were 30 year bonds/ Gilts think the interest was 4.39% down from 4.6% last time Yes, it is. It shows that the UK is becoming more attractive to investment. However, if we really want the UK economy to power ahead the stock market needs to become more attractive to investment. For example, there are UK based companies that choose to be listed in the American stock exchange, examples include, Arm who create the architecture for computer processor chips it’s factory is in Cambridge but is listed on the American stock exchange, Burberry and Shell are considering transferring their listings to the American stock exchange. This is important because it means that government gets less corporation tax revenue and they have increase personal taxes to compensate.
