RE: UFC - groundnpound - 26-06-2011 11:30 It's gotta be something to do with him getting down to 170 lbs surely. He pulled out of the fight on weigh in day because he didn't recieve medical clearance. Then the next thing we hear is that he's been cut from the UFC. I'd say he's probs been on something to help him shed the pounds.Does anyone know what he walked around at when he fought as a middleweight? MW is for fighters between 171-185lbs.So if Marquardt walked around at 185 he'd only be cutting around a stone to make the Welter weight of 170lbs.No probs i'd guess?Who knows? It could be something totally different. RE: UFC - Carl13 - 26-06-2011 14:15 Recent Twitter post by Joe Lauzon indicates making weight was not the problem. Although it could be related - Use of illegal substances to get there. If he couldn't make 171 and the UFC were desperate to keep the main event in tact they could have considered making it a catch-weight contest with Marquardt paying a financial penalty. It would have been a risk for Story to accept but the offer would have had it pros as well as cons for him. Other theories include an undisclosed injury or staph infection. RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 26-06-2011 15:16 I'm thinking it's either illegal suppliments, an undisclosed injury which Nate hoped to fight with but it was found out or worse still some kind of disease (Hep C) which was discovered. This speculation wouldn't be happening if the reason was announced from the get go. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 26-06-2011 15:41 This video puts to bed the rumour that Marquardt couldn't make weight. Breaking sports news video. MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL highlights and more. Didn't know his trainer was Trevor Wittman.Shane Carwin and Rashad Evans trainer. One of the most respected trainers in the game. Can't see drug use being the cause of the ban now especially being in Wittman's camp.Unless it's a Kolo Toure type thing? The Pennsylvania Athletic Commission are holding a press conference later,so we'll probs find out then? RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 26-06-2011 16:22 It's got to be something for Dana White to have canned him on the day when the likes of Chael Sonnen who has a criminal conviction is still with the UFC. RE: UFC - mitchell - 26-06-2011 19:55 Wow he looks half his size in that vid, he looks normal but considering the extra muscle he had before he looks strange the first time you see him. Yeah the Chael Sonnen thing didn't get him cut so it might be that he knowingly took a banned substance or just failed it due to a small injury & kicked off a bit so got dropped Paul Daley style??? ..... The wait goes on...... Oh & don't forget the show will go on at 2am in the morning on ESPN & is repeated Thursday at 22:00. RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 27-06-2011 07:03 Kongo/Barry was amazing. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 27-06-2011 12:15 Main Card Fights from last night. (Couldn't get Howard v Brown) Sorry lads. Mitrione v Morecraft Story v Brenneman Kongo v Barry RE: UFC - Master Yoda - 27-06-2011 15:00 I reckon it's a definite use of illegal substances....You can read between the lines in what Dana White is saying here..... http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/UFC/Dana-White-Im-disgusted-with-Nate-Marquardt-13115 What a finish to the Kongo/Barry fight by the way RE: UFC - Carl13 - 27-06-2011 17:57 (27-06-2011 15:00 )Master Yoda Wrote: I reckon it's a definite use of illegal substances....You can read between the lines in what Dana White is saying here..... Just seen the card from last night - Enjoyed the show with a great finish to the main event. In an interview later Barry said he thought he had won when he came around!! The loss of Marquardt did allow for the home-town Brenneman to get his shot against a guy on the rise and for the UFC to sell it as a "Rocky" storyline (No pun intended). It would appear the commission knew there was a problem for some time but were hopeful Marquardt could still qualify which would rule out PEDs. http://mmajunkie.com/news/24166/psac-indefinitely-suspends-marquardt-says-ufc-fighter-had-six-weeks-to-gain-clearance.mma |
