RE: Ofcom Discussion - Scottishbloke - 29-01-2012 22:30 I don't fear Ofcom one bit when it comes to the internet, they have been wanting to get their paws on this for the past few years now and have everytime failed. It's one thing throwing your weight around when it comes to regulating the TV and another when it comes to the world wide web, all this is that's I've read is Ofcom opinion and I don't expect any of it to come to fruition. Ofcom are just getting too big for their boots and it's not their job to be dictating policy RE: Ofcom Discussion - Digital Dave - 29-01-2012 22:39 ^^^^ Agreed. I think if Ofcom, or their government overlords, decided to muscle in on the internet they'd be in trouble. Look at the swift retribution that was meted out to various American government agencies after trying to get the SOPA bill through? RE: Ofcom Discussion - eccles - 29-01-2012 23:27 Ofcom strengthens guidelines on psychic television Media regulator Ofcom has today [20 Dec 2011] published new guidelines on psychic TV services, including ouija, satanism, spells, clairvoyance and exorcism. ... The regulator warned that both the PTV advertisement and the psychic service itself must state clearly that they are "for entertainment purposes only". ... Core to the guidelines is that all psychic PTV should be "readily identifiable as advertising" and never dressed up as editorial content that people could mistake for programming. Looks like we've all finally agreed there's nothing more can possibly be said on this subject for the time being RE: Ofcom Discussion - Digital Dave - 04-02-2012 00:32 Indeed! We can all reconvene when SEL get their licences formally revoked and BBird vanishes from our screens. RE: Ofcom Discussion - eccles - 04-02-2012 01:24 True, theres a limit to how many different ways we can say the rules are unfair and arbitrary without repeating ourselves. Sometimes this kind of forum can end up with just 2 or 3 posters either agreeing with each other, or arguing bitterly among themselves. Last week there was lots of lively debate with lots of different posters, and that was great, but since then it has been pretty dead. To be honest, things are dead all over, mainstream TV was dead on Thursday and Friday, the two busiest nights of the week after Saturday. Work is like a morgue. The shops are empty. Its a bad time for cinemas and theatres. The weather is bad too. Im hoping its just a temporary post Christmas thing and March will see a general pick up, warmer weather and Geordie lasses in T shirts again. This particular thread will probably remain quiet until either Vishnu perpetrate another atorocity or an enthusiastic newbie comes along. RE: Ofcom Discussion - eccles - 07-02-2012 00:32 From todays Broadcast Bulletin. A music channel broadcasts Eminim uncut at 6pm. Strong language. A religious channel broadcasts an opinion piece with strong bias against some countries. The brodcaster claims it was part of a series with overall balance due an episode broadcast about a year earlier. This is a repeat offence. A channel broadcast 52 minutes of advertising in an hour. Another channel broadcast 23, 25 and 20 minutes in three hours. Assessed, not investigated (not in breach) - Essex Babes 14 Dec - Playboy TV 14 Dec (2 complaints) - Playboy TV (undated) - Red Light 8 Dec - Red Light 29 Dec Under investigation - Storm 9 Dec Dont read too much into this, we have seen similar before. RE: Ofcom Discussion - Scottishbloke - 07-02-2012 00:59 Well the good news is that Ofcom have dismissed the so-called complaints towards the babe channels, this can only be seen as positive and hopefully this trend of hassle free will continue. http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/enforcement/broadcast-bulletins/obb199/obb199.pdf RE: Ofcom Discussion - continental19 - 07-02-2012 01:03 (07-02-2012 00:59 )Scottishbloke Wrote: Well the good news is that Ofcom have dismissed the so-called complaints towards the babe channels, this can only be seen as positive and hopefully this trend of hassle free will continue.
