^ Most clubs used to treat this cup like an extra friendly before the League Cup matches the following week. It is first time that most clubs have taken it seriously.

^ would be a shame if SPFL's latest bright idea of dropping the Top 6 Under 20's teams into this tournament meant some lower league clubs go back to treating it an extra friendly if the above change comes to pass

Hearts got League Cup matches started at home to Arbroath who shocked the home crowd by taking a 40th min lead through David Gold
3 second half goals by Hearts by McGhee(57) and Sow(60, pen 61) seemed to have settled the match only for Grehan to score to make it 3-2 in 85 mins, to set up a tense finish until 3rd minute of injury time when an Arbroath player put through his own net to make it 4-2 to Hearts

Took Kilmarnock over an hour to have a shot against Dundee who won 4-0. Partick Thistle somehow kept a clean sheet at Hamilton!
