I feel sorry for Sherwood, he worked wonders to keep Villa up last season and get them playing a more attractive style of football. But unfortunately villa are now a selling club and let their three best players go as soon as reasonable offers came in, without bothering to get suitable replacements.

This is completely untrue. Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph had buyout clauses in their contracts which were met in full by the buying clubs. Aston Villa were powerless to prevent them from leaving. They had actually rejected more than a dozen offers for Benteke.

Buyout clauses are simply a way of helping a club get the best price possible for their players and the moment such a clause is included in someones contract then far from putting off other clubs you are simply telling them the player concerned is available at the right price, Villa simply held out until their price was met.

You've totally contradicted your original argument. You said that Villa let these players go as soon as reasonable offers came in. Now you're saying they didn't and that instead they held out until their price was met.
