My only concern is that the squad is being picked a matter of weeks from the start of the world cup. The team selection should have been sorted out months ago and players given time to bond. Now the likes of the relatively inexperienced Luke Shaw will be subject to the full attention of the fickle media at a major tournament. Lets hope he has a sensational World Cup. Problem is you announce the squad 3 months ago and all of them get injured it always happens !!! we havent had the curse of the Metatarcel this time around im sure he had it in his head along with the replacements if the choices got injured i reckon he will use these 2 friendlys to see if Rooney can play the suarez role in the liverpool diamond formation if he can then we have a plan b something england havent had for a while unless u call hoofing it up to heskey or peter crouch im hoping he takes young joe flannagen as well be a bit a shock for united fans i reckon only rooney and wellbeck will make the squad as i think Carrick will miss out RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - lovebabes56 - 12-05-2014 07:58 (12-05-2014 07:48 )HannahsPet Wrote:(12-05-2014 06:57 )bytor Wrote: I totally agree that younger players should be going. I'm glad too that the metatarsal injury curse hasn't struck again, which is a good sign I suppose. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - 7 stars of the orient - 12-05-2014 10:30 Now that the decison on Ashley Cole is known, it leaves Roy Hodgson's England squad looking like this. Joe Hart, Ben Foster, Fraser Forster Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Luke Shaw, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling Steven Gerrard, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson, Ross Barkley, Frank Lampard Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck, Rickie Lambert RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - HannahsPet - 12-05-2014 10:39 i thought Phil Jones was out cos of his shoulder RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - 7 stars of the orient - 12-05-2014 10:42 Ryan Giggs said on Friday that Jones is going to be fit for the World Cup. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - bytor - 12-05-2014 11:42 We will find out out soon enough. Could be a number of young players. Everton's Stone is in the frame, as are Shaw and Flanagan but all will presumably back up should Baines be injured or suffer a severe lack of form. Shaw is certainly quality and I wasn't saying previously that he should not go to the World cup all I was stating was that the top international teams do know more or less the squad that will go to the finals 12 or more months in advance, bar any injuries. The point I was making before is we go through this process every time, where the squad is not confirmed until near the start of the actual competition. That to me, puts us at a distinct disadvantage to begin with when compared to more skillful teams like Germany, Brazil, Argentina etc. Our best hope in getting to the latter stages is to have a strong and cohesive team unit as we just don't have the squad depth to compete pound for pound on skill and ability alone. It's all well and good saying these young players will benefit for future tournaments but they should be getting that experience in all the international friendlies prior to the start of the world's biggest footballing competition. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - HannahsPet - 12-05-2014 12:15 thing is they can have all the friendlies they have and still when it means something they can go to peices. Im hoping Hodgson goes for youth and then the fans and media get behind the team win or lose theres a chance we wont get out the group anyway rather we tried it with kids for experience than pick same old same old who dont get out and we still dont know if the kids can cut it RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - HannahsPet - 12-05-2014 13:09 |
