At the close of day 1 England are 314-4. Root 141 not out, Cook 105.

I would say we won the first two sessions but drew the last. Regardless we are in a very strong position.

Woakes is England's nightwatchman, with a test batting average of 32.44.

I am a big fan of Woakes. In glad the selectors have seen sense and are plsying both him and Stokes together. I would like to see Butler come in and play with Bairstow as well. Obviously one as a specialised batsmen and the other as a wicket keeper.

Pakistan all out 198 are still 391 behind. England have not enforced the follow-on.

At the close of day 3 after several rain interruptions England have reached 98-1 extending their lead to 489.

The Follow On never seems to be enforced these days, but with a lead of 391 it's surely an odd decision not to.
