I thought that one of the balls (other than the cue ball) had to touch the snooker table cush. Or is that in pool.

That's pool, 4 balls have to hit the cushion from the break

According to Alan McManus, the players were emailed about what they thought of the Williams break off. I think most are OK with it.

Just get on with it. Nice to see a different break off than the same one from every single player, every single game and every single frame for the 25 years I've been watching snooker. Some have called it negative but when Quinten Hann was smashing open the reds from the break off a few years ago he was getting slated for it too, no winning with so called traditionalists Rolleyes

You will have more joy trying to have a conversation with a biscuit
Think he has quite regular "conversations" with biscuits, and doesn't let a word in edgeways Surprised

I recall Steve Davis did the "non-"break-off shot in his latter years too, and it just seemed desperate then. Williams seems to be playing for fun a lot these days, so fair play for that.

Is it a custard cream, a ginger nut, a Hobnob?
That is the question laugh

I am extremely disappointed at the tournament outcome.
I was very much in the Anyone but Selby camp from the start of the event Rolleyes.
However the spectators who booed him are a disgrace. Not worthy of attending a World Final. I am disgusted at that behaviour. It is totally unacceptable annoyed.

This is not to say I particularly wanted Murphy to win either because I didn't.
I was deeply underwhelmed by the way the whole championship played out and even more so with the finalists.

Hopefully next year will be better Huh.

But NO booing!! annoyed

I'm definitely in the Custard cream corner mate along with jaffa cakes, chocolate bourbons, chocolate digestives Tongue Big Grin Anything else just isn't snooker.

From what I just read you have to make to make contact with a red ball from the break off : -
http://www.rulesofsnooker.com/the-break.html

Whether the governing body will ever actually change the rules is another question, maybe they should bring in a rule similar to Pool, where maybe at least 2 balls (with one of them a red) and the cue ball has to touch a cushion, but I always thought the cue ball has to be back at the other end of the table and touch the cushion there for the break off to be deemed legal. but whether a time limit on shot should be brought in for just the break off.
