RE: Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - Charlemagne - 08-03-2022 07:42 The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is going to speak to the House of Commons today via video link. It may badly backfire on the government as he's likely to critise us about not imposing a no fly zone, not imposing enough sanctions on Russia & on Russian money in London and the treatment of Ukrainian nationals who are trying to get into Britain. Especially if he homes in on the dirty Russian money thing. But not half as uncomfortable as if they'd refused him the opportunity to speak at all. US estimates of 2000 - 4000 could be nearer the mark. Even the Russian figure of 500 in ten days equates to 18,000 in a year though, if you're making comparisons. RE: Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - HannahsPet - 09-03-2022 08:40 what the same US estimates that said the russians would overtake them in 96 hours 2 weeks ago RE: Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - hornball - 09-03-2022 15:01 I can well understand the reluctance of the west to supply the likes of air power to the Ukrainians, but ultimately, they don't have the means to defend themselves for as long as it might take, without some form of 'superiority' to turn the tide! I am always - while no longer surprised - left reflecting on the position of the USA in these instances. Firstly, how have we reached the position that they constantly put themselves forward as 'spokesperson' for every country - in this instance, rejecting the idea of Poland supplying Planes (I see why...but for the sake of this debate)??. Then the 'conductor' of the response 'orchestra' to events like the current one?? Finally, the hypocrisy they constantly exhibit at times like these when - and we all know this to be true - they answer to no one when it comes to determining whatever action they see fit to take themselves! We need an urgent re - balancing of the world's geo - political landscape in my view. Interesting that the USA hasn't joined the chorus of those demanding Putin etc face the ICJ or the ICC for war crimes isn't it?? How could they when they do not recognise these bodies, instead stating, quote: 'we try our own cases in our own way'. |
